Bed and breakfast Les Coukis in Bitschwiller-lès-Thann

The bed and breakfast Les Coukis is located in a big house with a garden in Bitschwiller-lès-Thann, in the Ballon des Vosges Nature Park (in the South of Alsace). The house is nested between the southern entrance of the Wine Route and the Crest Road, very close to the Grand Ballon of Alsace.

The bed and breakfast is run by a really adorable couple, Mireille and Christian. They will welcome you warmly: Les Coukis is the kind of place where you feel immediately right at home. I found myself with a cup of herbal tea, chatting away with them as if I knew them for a long time. How nice it is to be welcomed this way!

Mireille and Christian also have good advice if you are looking for ideas of things to do in the area: they know the region very well and share with pleasure their good tips for tours, hikes, mountain biking routes, etc. That is unless you would prefer to rest peacefully in their garden! They can speak german and a bit of english too.

Finally, they try to contribute to the protection of the environment with a few things, like wood heating, rain water harvesting, raising a few chickens to reduce waste…

My room in the bed and breakfast Les Coukis

The bed and breakfast Les Coukis has two different rooms: the room Léa, for two people (plus possibly a crib) and the room Alizé, a family room for up to 6 people.

I visited the two rooms and slept in the room Léa. The two rooms are very clean, comfortable and the decoration is simple, but elegant. You will find in the corridor, a fridge, as wall as a boiler and tea. What a nice touch!

The bathroom of the room Alizé is large, with a bathtub, and the one of the room Léa is very small, but with all the essentials. The only negative point is that it doesn’t have a door for now (but it is in a nook). The owners are gonna install a sliding door soon. The bathroom is full of small thoughtful touches: shower gel, cottons for cleansing, Q-tips… Very pleasant!

Breakfast at the bed and breakfast Les Coukis

The breakfast is copious and entirely homemade by Mireille: brioche (made with the eggs from the house chickens), bread, yogurts, jams, freshly pressed orange juice, fresh fruit salad… It’s a real treat! It is served in the big living-room of the house or on the terrace in summer.

Breakfast is also a good opportunity to chat with Mireille, who is always happy to spend time with the guests if they want to. I really had a nice time!

The bed and breakfast Les Coukis is in a pretty good location. The house is perfectly located for people who want to discover the area of the Vosges: it is in the mountains and in a few minutes walk, you can be walking around the Crest Road.

If you want to visit Alsatian towns and villages and explore the Wine Route, the location might not be as good, but is still ok. Les Coukis are not at the heart of the Wine Route, but next to the southern entrance of the Wine Route (Thann) and of the Crest Road. Mulhouse is about a 30 minutes drive and Colmar a 45 minutes drive.

I liked

  • Beautiful house and comfortable rooms
  • Warm welcome from the owners
  • Delicious homemade breakfast
  • Excellent value for money

I liked a little less

  • The lack of bathroom door in the room Léa, but they are gonna install one!
