Brunch and spa at the Athena Hotel in Strasbourg

I was invited one Sunday to test the brunch and spa formula of the Athena hotel, located in the Hautepierre district in Strasbourg. Let’s be honest, it’s not the neighborhood that makes you dream to spend a Sunday afternoon… I hesitated a bit and finally decided to give it a chance. I did well, I had a great time! Even if we can’t compare this spa to the luxurious Alsatian spas in the Vosges, such as La Cheneaudière or Chez Julien, it is a good alternative in town and for a lower price, from which you will come out well relaxed too! Of course, you don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the brunch and spa package.

We begin with the brunch, which takes place in a room in the decoration a little cold in my taste. The buffet is huge, both savory and sweet. Charcuterie, cheese, salmon gravlax, verrines, small puff pastries, soup, scrambled eggs… There’s even a nice hot dish (miter and spaetzle, in my case), which I really enjoyed. The sweet side is not left out with, among others, pastries, cereals, fruits and various pastries. Overall, what I ate was good but I must say I was also disappointed by some things (orange juice, waffles and industrial pancakes for example). I think that the buffet would benefit from being reduced to focus on better quality products (which are already present, too bad to steal the show!).

We continue with the spa of the Athena hotel, a small spa nevertheless very pleasant. The elegant venue features an indoor pool with alternating jets, massage showers, two saunas, a steam room and a relaxation room. I particularly liked the lounge, with its screen imitating a fireplace (obviously it doesn’t have the same effect, but it’s nice anyway), its library full of travel books to browse through and its unlimited iced tea. It’s just a shame that you can still hear some of the car noise outside. Small disappointment also on the temperature of the water of the swimming pool (31 degrees), which would deserve to be higher to be able to bask there one moment, more especially as the various jets are very pleasant. It is of course also possible to book massages and treatments, but I did not test it.

I liked

  • Large brunch buffet with good food and a real hot dish
  • Small but very pleasant spa
  • Bathrobe, slippers and towels provided
  • Friendly staff

I liked less

  • Some brunch products, very industrial
  • Pool a little too cold
  • Location of the hotel
