Have you ever dreamed of gliding through the snow in a sled pulled by dogs? Personally, it was a dream of mine. And I can tell you that it is as great in reality as I dreamed! I tested a dog sledding experience in Alsace with Rêve de Nord, located in the Valley of Munster on the Schnepfenried resort (Haut-Rhin).
Rêve de Nord offers mainly half-day trips but also baptisms. No introduction to driving, however. The advantage of the baptism is that it allows you to discover the activity and to have fun for a reduced price. Pretty cool because dog sledding is an expensive activity (which is normal, maintaining a pack of dogs is very expensive!).
The dog sledding experience begins with a presentation and explanation of the pack, composed of Husky, Greenlander, Malamute and Alaskan dogs. They are beautiful and some are quite cuddly. The dogs are then harnessed. While they were all calm, the simple fact of seeing Fabien, the musher, catching the lines (ropes which will be used to make them pull the sled) involves in the dogs a great excitement. It barks in all directions, we feel that they are eager to leave! I get into the sled and we leave for about 20 minutes of ride with 7 dogs. The dogs, the snowy landscapes, the calm, the sliding on the snow… What a joy! It is impressive to see the complicity between the musher and his dogs, who listen to him attentively. The time passes very quickly and we are already back at the starting point. Even though it was short, I had a really magical time!
I liked
- Nice welcome and interesting explanations from the musher
- Beautiful dogs
- The baptism allows a discovery at low cost
I liked less
- It goes by too fast! 😉
- To be booked well in advance

Practical information
Rates
You will find here the prices of Rêve de Nord. Remember to book well in advance (one or more months), it is often full in winter!
Access
By car
The Schnepfenried is located in:
- 35 km from Colmar (about 45 minutes)
- 56 km from Mulhouse (about 1 hour)
- 106 km from Strasbourg (about 1h30)
By public transport
It is difficult. There is a shuttle that leads to the station from the station of Munster but the point of departure is not on the station. It is always possible to walk but you have to be a little patient.
Hungry?
If you are hungry, I like the Ferme-auberge Deybach located on the Schnepfenried station.
