Gîte La Loge du Pic Noir in Dabo – A large and comfortable gîte

The Gîte La Loge du Pic Noir is located in Dabo, in the Lorraine region of France, right on the border with Alsace. A place I like very much: the landscapes are beautiful there and you can easily do a lot of different activities. A beautiful place for this cottage where you will spend a good stay!

A gîte for 6 persons adapted to PMR

The gite is for 6 people and is spread over 2 floors: there are two fully enclosed bedrooms, one of which has a private shower room, and an open bedroom on the mezzanine on the second floor. The first two have double beds while the last one has 2 single beds. They are all spacious and nicely decorated .

One of the rooms is located on the first floor, which is fully adapted to accommodate people with reduced mobility.

The living room is large, with a dining room table, a sofa, a TV (with Netflix access!) and a large open kitchen that is fully equipped (induction cooker, oven and microwave, coffee bean machine, dishwasher… and even a keg beer tap!).

We can see that every detail has been well thought out, it is really a very comfortable gite . To note, the household linen and the towels are provided.

A renovated and sustainable cottage

La Loge du Pic Noir is located in a former workshop of a basket maker, clog maker and distiller which has been entirely renovated by its owners Sabine and Marc. An impressive work: the house is now very modern, while having kept elements of the old building which give it a lot of charm.

Sabine and Marc have tried as much as possible to reuse existing materials and elements and have even made some of the furniture themselves from recycled wood and metal. Even if the ecological aspect is not particularly emphasized, there is a real sustainable approach that really deserves to be praised, the work done is crazy and the result really successful.

I also really liked the photos that adorn the walls of the gite and that were taken by Marc. They look great!

Outside of the lodge

The outside spaces of the gite are very pleasant. There is a garden and a beautiful terrace exposed to the south with a brazier, a plancha, a Nordic bath heated with wood and a petanque field. What to spend excellent evenings… There is also a beautiful sunny terrace on the second floor with inviting deck chairs.

For cyclists, a bicycle room is also available: the bicycles are well installed and can be easily washed with a hose or recharged if it is an EV. Again, this was super well thought out!

Location of the lodge

The gîte is located on the heights of Dabo, in the hamlet of Grand Ballerstein. It takes 5 minutes from downtown Dabo, on a very small road. I must admit I really hoped I wouldn’t run into anyone! If you come in winter, you will have to be sure to have snow tires in my opinion. Once arrived, the location is pleasant because we are really quiet, at the edge of the forest, while having Dabo at 5 minutes.

There are many things to do in the area: climb the Rocher de Dabo (a must!), hike around Dabo, go see the inclined plane of Saint-Louis-Arzwiller, the castle of Lutzelbourg, take a walk in the Vallée des Eclusiers… You can easily stay a while without getting bored!
