Gîtes Les Remparts de Riquewihr – Charming apartments

The Gîtes Les Remparts de Riquewihr consist of 14 gîtes, divided into three different buildings: the “Gîtes du rempart de l’an 1291”, the “Gîtes du rempart de l’an 1500” and the “Gîtes du Vigneron”. I have only tested the first one and I will only be talking about this one.

Located in the heart of the town center of Riquewihr, the Gîtes are located in an old building dating back from 1580, which was entirely renovated to host charming apartments of varying sizes. The owners, Jean-Paul and Martine, restored them over the course of two years, as it was only an old ruin when they decided to buy it. It’s actually quite hard to believe when visiting it, as the whole is a real success! The character of the old building has been remarkably retained and the apartments perfectly converted. The place is full of charm, mixing perfectly the old and the new, all the while enhancing the different natural materials used.

The Gîtes des remparts de l’an 1291 consist of 6 different gites, that can accommodate between 2 and 6 persons. These are luxury gites, offering very nice amenities. I have visited several gîtes (see pictures below) and I slept in the Gîte du Petit Loup, a charming apartment for 2 persons. I absolutely loved staying there: I had the feeling to be in a genuine small and confortable cocoon, even during a sad winter day. It’s ideal for a romantic weekend for example!

The Gîtes are furnished with objects hunted in flea markets by Jean-Paul and Martine, with a few additional Alsatian details, without overdoing it either: it’s a nice balance! Equipement-wise, everything is there and everything is very modern:  TV, speakers, household appliances (induction hobs, oven, dishwasher, washing machine, filter coffee machine and Nespresso, etc.), tableware, staples (washing-up liquid, oil, salt, coffee, tea…), linens, towels, dressing gowns, toiletries… You actually only have to show up with your personal belongings: everything else is supplied! The apartments are well-heated, air-conditioned and are equipped with free Wi-Fi. In addition, some also have a balcony or a terrace.

The location of the gîtes is really ideal, as they are located in a peaceful neighbourhood, in a perpendicular street to the Grand Rue in Riquewihr, all the while being only 30 seconds away on foot from the latter. Moreover, it’s possible to park along the remparts, just next door. In addition, the gîtes offer beautiful viewpoints: on one side, over the town rooftops and on the other, over the vineyard of the Grand Cru Schoenenbourg (by the way, you have to taste it while you are in town!).

If you are looking for accommodation for business tourism in Alsace, please also note that the Remparts de Riquewihr have a large seminar room.

I liked

  • Magnificent old Alsatian building
  • Splendid gîtes that are really well decorated
  • Fully furnished and modern equipment in the apartments
  • Ideal location in Riquewihr: practical and with beautiful viewpoints

I liked a little less

  • Nothing!
