Gîtes Les Remparts de Riquewihr – Charming apartments

The gîtes Les Remparts de Riquewihr are composed of 14 charming gîtes, divided into three different buildings: the gîtes of the 1291 rampart, the gîtes of the 1500 rampart and the gîtes of the Vigneron. I have tested the first ones and I will tell you about these ones.

Located in the heart of downtown Riquewihr, the gîtes are located in an old building dating from 1580 which has been entirely renovated to accommodate charming apartments of different sizes. The owners, Jean-Paul and Martine, took two years to restore what was a ruin when they decided to buy it. It’s hard to believe when you visit the place as the whole is so successful! The character of the old building has been remarkably well preserved and the apartments perfectly furnished. The place is full of charm, mixing perfectly ancient and modern while highlighting the various natural materials used.

The gites of the ramparts of the year 1291 have 6 different gites, which can accommodate between 2 and 6 people. These are top-of-the-range gites offering very nice services. I visited several gîtes (see photos) and for my part slept in the Gîte du Petit Loup, a lovely apartment for 2 people. I loved staying there: I felt like I was in a real cozy little cocoon, even on a dreary winter day. Ideal for a romantic weekend, for example!

The gîtes are furnished with objects patiently collected by Jean-Paul and Martine, with Alsatian touches without overdoing it either: a good balance! As far as equipment is concerned, nothing is missing and everything is very modern: TV, speakers, household appliances (induction hobs, oven, dishwasher, washing machine, filter and Nespresso coffee machine, etc.), crockery, basic products (washing-up liquid, oil, salt, coffee, tea…), sheets, towels, bathrobes, toiletries… It’s simple, you just have to come with your personal belongings: you will find everything else on the spot! The apartments are well heated, air conditioned and have free wifi. In addition, some have a balcony or terrace.

The situation of the gîtes is really ideal since they are located in a quiet street perpendicular to the Grand Rue of Riquewihr, while being at 30 seconds on foot from the latter. Moreover, it is possible to park along the ramparts, just next door. As a bonus, the gîtes offer beautiful views, on one side on the roofs of the city and on the other side on the vineyard of the Grand Cru Schoenenbourg (to be tasted during your visit in the region, by the way!).

If you are looking for a place for business tourism in Alsace, you should also know that the Remparts de Riquewihr have a large seminar room.

I liked

  • Magnificent old Alsatian building
  • Beautifully decorated gites
  • Complete and modern equipment of the apartments
  • Ideal location in Riquewihr: convenient and with beautiful views

I liked less

  • Nothing!
