hamlet-within-a-home

Looking for a romantic place to spend an evening (or a weekend!) with your other half? Let me introduce you to the establishment Hameau des Sens in Phalsbourg. Phalsbourg is located in Lorraine but at the border with Alsace. It takes only 45 minutes by car to get there from Strasbourgwhich makes it a perfect place to disconnect for an evening… Because yes, you will disconnect at Hamlet of the Senses! This set of chalets with private Nordic baths was imagined at length by Philippe, the owner of the place, for the great pleasure of the visitors who decide to stop there.

The concept of the Hameau des Sens in Phalsbourg

After a very different career as head of important companies, Philippe wished to extend his professional life with a totally different project that corresponds perfectly to him: the Hameau des Sens. He thus imagined this original concept of accommodation, a small haven of peace where he welcomes the customers with only one idea in head: that they feel well, benefit from the place and set out again ressourced. All his reflections were also nourished by his experience: in his previous life, he often had to sleep in hotels and therefore imagined the Hameau des Sens while trying to create an accommodation such as he dreamed of.

Thus, every detail of the Hameau des Sens has been carefully thought out: the land and its view of nature (a meadow with a horse, goats and trees in the distance), the design of the Vosges wooden chalets, their location on telluric wells in order to transmit good energy to the visitors, the custom-made decoration elements made by many local craftsmen, the Nordic baths… Really nothing has been left to chance! The result is as good as it gets, the cottages are really comfortable and you feel very well. Ideal for an excellent moment of relaxation…

Les chalets du Hameau des Sens – My opinion

The 5 chalets of the Hameau des Sens can accommodate 2 people. They are 24m2 and include a bedroom with a very comfortable King Size bed, a reading area (or aperitif!) with two armchairs and a coffee table, a small bathroom with a walk-in shower (and separate toilet), a really small but cleverly arranged kitchenette with a small fridge, a sink and a combined microwave (i.e. with oven function too), a coffee machine… Only the electric plates are missing but the idea is not to make a big kitchen in the chalet either. Here again, every detail has been thought of: the plates, for example, are not simple Ikea plates but have been made by a local ceramist. The whole chalet breathes harmony, you feel good as soon as you set foot there.

The 5 cottages are installed at a good distance from each other: it is not huge but we do not have the feeling to be on top of each other either. This should be even more the case when the vegetation that has been planted has reached its adult size and the paths are designed in such a way as to ensure real privacy for everyone.

Terrace and private Nordic bath

Outside each chalet is a private terrace with a coffee table and two armchairs, blinds for privacy, and, as a highlight of the Hameau des Sens, a Nordic bath. For those who are not familiar with the Nordic bath, it is a large barrel made of wood with water at about 40 degrees. It is ideal to relax, especially since the wood is very soft (no risk of splinters, I reassure you!) and releases essences in contact with water (imagine that water is like wine in a barrel, there are exchanges between the two!) The wood of the barrels is red cedar that Philippe went to Canada to choose (yes, after all!) following his discovery of the Nordic baths, which he had fallen in love with.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried a Nordic bath before, but it’s indeed super nice. Arriving at the Hameau des Sens in the late afternoon, we first had a drink on the terrace (a great way to disconnect from the past day!), then went to dinner and, upon our return, decided to try the Nordic bath. The privilege of having a private bath on your terrace is to be able to decide to go there at midnight, provided, of course, that you do not speak too loudly out of respect for the occupants of the other chalets. Bathing in this delicious hot tub in the middle of the night when the temperature outside was cool was a great time! In addition, there is even a small table where you can have a drink while lounging in the relaxing scented hot water…

Breakfast and dinner at the Hameau des Sens

The Hameau des Sens offers an optional breakfast and a catering service for dinner. Unfortunately I was not able to test it when I went there due to a personal issue with the caterer, but the offer sounds tempting and I think it is very nice to enjoy a dinner at the chalet in this idyllic setting. As for the breakfast, there was a problem on my side and I had to leave much earlier than expected without being able to enjoy it, but you should know that from fresh bread and pastries are delivered to the door of the cottage at 8am (without waking you up) and that you can find everything you need in the fridge: ham, cheese, eggs, yoghurt, milk, butter, jam, apple juice… In short, there is enough to do 😉

In addition, you can also take an option including for example champagne, chocolates and a bouquet of flowers… When I tell you that this place is perfect for a romantic weekend, I did not lie to you! Going there during the week can also be a good option for a nice break from time 😉

Location of the Hameau des Sens

The Hameau des Sens is located in Phalsbourg, 45 minutes from Strasbourg, in a very pretty and too little known part of Lorraine. The nature is great in this area, with beautiful forests and big red rocks. If you come for a few days, you can for example go and see the Castle Lutzelbourg, make beautiful hiking on the marked trails of the Club Vosgien, cycling or mountain biking, going to the Rocher de Dabo, seeing the famous inclined plane of Saint-Louis Artzviller or walking in the Vallée des Eclusiers. There is plenty to do for nature lovers! Want more ideas in the area? Find here my ideas of activities around Dabo and Phalsbourg!

I liked

  • Beauty and comfort of the chalets
  • Private Nordic bath with a view of nature
  • Passionate owner
  • Possibility to have breakfast and dinner

I liked less

  • The alleys are still lacking a bit of greenery but it’s growing 😉
