Le Hameau des Sens – Chalets with private Nordic baths

Are you looking for a romantic place to spend an evening (or a weekend!) with your votre other half? Let me present you to Le Hameau des Sens in Phalsbourg. Phalsbourg is located in Lorraine, but it’s at the boundary with Alsace. It only takes 45 minutes by car to get there from Strasbourg, which makes it the perfect place to get away and disconnect for an evening… Because you will definitely disconnect and unplug at the Hameau des Sens! This group of chalets with private Nordic baths has been imagined for a long time by Philippe, the owner, for the great pleasure of guests taking a break there.

The concept of Hameau des Sens

After a very different career in another field, as the head of large companies, Philippe wanted to extend his professional life with an entirely different project, that would perfectly fit him: the Hameau des Sens. He thereby imagined this little haven of peace, where he welcomes guests with a single idea in mind: that they feel good, that they enjoy the place and that they leave re-ernergised. All his reflection process was nourished by his experience: in his former life, he often had to stay in hotels and he imagined Le Hameau des Sens, by trying to create the accommodation of his dreams.

This is how, every single detail of the Hameau des Sens has been thought out for a long time: the land and the view over nature (a field with a horse, goats, and trees a bit further away), the design of the chalets in wood from the Vosges, their location on telluric currents, in order to convey good energy to guests, custom-made decorative elements made by many local artisans, nordic baths… nothing has been left to chance! The outcome matches the expectations and the chalets are truly confortable and you’ll feel great inside.

The Chalets of the Hameau des Sens

The 5 chalets of the Hameau des Sens can host 2 people. They are 24m2 and comprise a very confortable King Size bed,  a reading (or aperitif) corner with two chairs and a coffee table, a small bathroom with an Italian shower (and separate toilet),  a very small, but very cleverly laid-out kitchenette with a small fridge, a sink and a combination microwave (i.e. with an oven function), a coffee machine… Only the hotplates are missing, but the idea is not really either to cook big meals in the chalet. Once again, every detail has been thought out: for example, plates are not from Ikea, but have been made by a local ceramicist. The whole chalet exudes harmony, and you’ll feel great as soon as you set foot in it.

The 5 chalets have been built at a good distance from each another: it’s not huge, but you don’t feel either as if everyone is on top of each other. It should be even better when the vegetation planted reaches its full-size and when the paths will be well-outlined, ensuring everyone, true privacy.

Private terrace and Nordic bath

Outside of each chalet, you will find a private terrace, comprising a coffee table with two chairs, awnings for intimacy, as well as – highlight of the Hameau des Sens – a Nordic bath. For those that are not familiar with Nordic baths, it’s a large wooden barrel, in which you will find water at about 40°C. It’s ideal to relax, especially as the wood is so soft (let me reassure you, there are no risk of splinters!) and releases essences when in contact with water (you can imagine water as wine in a barrel: there are exchanges amongst them!). The barrels are made from red cedar, that Philippe went to choose in Canada (yes, indeed!), after discovering Nordic baths, with which he fell in love.

I believe I had never tested Nordic baths beforehand, but is it indeed so pleasant. We arrived at the Hameau des Sens at the end of the afternoon and we first had a drink on the terrace (an excellent way to directly unplug from the day!). We then went for dinner and when we came back, we decided to try the Nordic bath. That’s the benefit of having your own private bath on your terrace: you can choose to go at midnight, baring in mind of course to not talk too loudly to respect other guests in other chalets. Taking a bath at night, in this delicious hot bath, while it was much cooler outside, was a great moment! In addition, there is even a small shelf, to be able to have a drink, all the while lounging in the warm water with relaxing scents…

Breakfast and dinner at the Hameau des Sens

The Hameau des Sens offers as an option breakfast, as well as a catering service for dinner. Unfortuntaly, I couldn’t try it when I went, because of a personal issue of the caterer, but the menu is very tempting and I believe it can be quite nice to enjoy dinner at the chalet in this idyllic setting. As for breakfast, it’s on my side that there was an issue and that I had to leave much earlier than expected and I couldn’t try it. However, please note that fresh bread and viennoiseries are delivered at your door at 8am (without waking you up) and that you’ll find in addition in the fridge, everything you will need: ham, cheese, eggs, yogurts, milk, butter, jam, apple juice… quite a lot of things! 😉

In addition, you can also take an option including for example, Champagne, chocolates and a bouquet of flowers… When I’m taking about the perfect place for a romantic weekend, I’m definitely not lying! It could also be very nice to go during the week, for a nice break out of time… 😉

Location of the Hameau des Sens

Le Hameau des Sens is located in Phalsbourg, 45 minutes away from Strasbourg, in a very pretty and unknown part of Lorraine. Nature is spectacular in this area, with beautiful forests and large red rocks. If you come for a few days, you’ll be able to visit the Lutzelbourg Castle, to go for beautiful hikes on the marked paths of the Club Vosgien, to go for a bike or mountain bike ride, to visit the Rock of Dabo, to go see the famous Saint-Louis Artzwiller inclined plane or to go for a stroll along the Marne-Rhine Canal, which is just nearby. All nature lovers will find a lot of things to do!

I liked

  • The beauty and confort of the chalets
  • The private Nordic bath with a view over nature
  • The enthusiast owner
  • The possibility to have breakfast and diner onsite

I liked a little less

  • The paths are still lacking a bit of greenery, but it’s growing! 😉
