A pretty village, a short, well-marked, rather accessible walk, with magnificent viewpoints… What more could you ask for than the “mountain vineyard” Heritage Trail in AlbĂ©, a small wine-producing village nestled in the Val de VillĂ©? We were lucky enough to discover it after heavy snowfalls, which made the nature and the landscape really magical!

This circuit, a loop of 5 km (about 2 hours), is also marked out with explanatory panels on the history of viticulture, local grape varieties and the terroir. The departure is from the museum-house of the Val de VillĂ©. Take the rue de la Chapelle along a stream. Soon, on your right, a fairly steep path but over a short distance brings you to the first explanation panel, then into the vineyards… And allows you to enjoy a first clear view on the village below.

Discover the “mountain vineyard” of AlbĂ©

All that remains is to follow small signs with a drawing of a wine press. A new panorama on the Val de Villé is discovered at about a third of the way then the path follows an undergrowth until the departmental road 539. Turn left to follow this road for a few meters (and not right towards Albé, which one is naturally tempted to do). Take the path on your right. It will heat up your calves with its beautiful climb but the magnificent view will reward you for your efforts!

The “mountain vineyard” Heritage Trail then descends quietly to AlbĂ©. As with the Wangen wine trail, don’t hesitate to visit this pretty village before leaving. If you are looking for a charming accommodation in the area, I recommend the 48 Degres Nord hotel in Breitenbach, only 10 minutes away by car. Its originality, the splendid view from the “hyttes” and the delicious cuisine of the chefs was a real coup de coeur for Laurène and myself.

It is possible to do this hike from Villé, which adds 1 hour round trip and about 4 km of walking. Follow the red cross signs from the post office in the direction of the Schrann kiosk. Once past the picnic area, turn left on the blue signposted path to reach Albé.
