Hike around Mittlach, in the Valley of Munster (6h)

Here is the itinerary for a loop hike starting in Mittlach, in the Valley of Munster, going through the famous Crest Road. I did this hike in July with the Club Vosgien of Colmar. The weather was stormy that day, so the idea was to go on the Crest Road while the weather was ok, and to slowly go down towards the Kolbenwasen chapel, our starting and finish point.

The main stops of this hike are: Altenweiher->Rainkopf->Rothenbachkopf->Steinwasen->Leibelthal->point 48-7.

The path climbs from the start, to reach the pretty Altenweiher lake. The climb continues throught the forest, then letting the landscape clear up more and more: you will reach the crest and its magnificient views!

After a walk along the crest, the descent starts. There is a farmhouse inn in Steinwasen. We gave up on savoring a good slice of pie to try to avoid the storm, but it could be a good idea before going back down. Don’t forget to check the opening days, not to be disappointed.

Just before finishing, there is an interest point, point 48-7, which is the exact place where a meridian and a parallel are crossing (the 48th parallel with the 7th meridian east). This point is materialized by a rock: there is nothing to see, it’s just a fun fact!

The path is marked out by the Club Vosgien, but the IGN map is essential to have as well! You can print it below, if you would like to do this itinerary. Remember to zoom in to see the details of the paths to follow.
