Hostellerie La Cheneaudière – Spa, nature and gastronomy

The Hostellerie La Cheneaudière is a 4-star hotel located in Colroy-la-Roche, in the Valley of Bruche, belonging to the prestigious network of Relais & Châteaux. Ideally located in a quiet setting, it is a very beautiful place to take a break. It’s a real haven of peace, from which you can only come out calm and rested. It’s one of my favorite places, perfect for a romantic weekend in Alsace, for example!

Atmosphere of the Hotel La Cheneaudière

I stayed in a room “The terraces”. It’s a spacious room with a large balcony with a view on the aromatic garden of La Cheneaudière and on the village. This room is beautiful, equipped with a comfortable king size bed, a bathroom with bathtub (it might be Italian shower) and a huge TV. The room is also equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine. I really enjoyed the elegant and warm decoration. Bonus point, for an extremely calm place and for the Valrhona chocolate waiting for you in your room!

The general atmosphere of the hotel is very pleasant. The building is splendid, with a beautiful view on the area and on the peaceful garden. The service is also very thoughtful. It is a place, where you’ll feel comfortable straight away!

Breakfast at the Hostellerie La Cheneaudière

Breakfast at the Cheneaudière is spectacular, perfectly combining quality and quantity. The buffet is huge and made up of numerous homemade, organic and local products. It is really excellent!

Food-wise, you’ll find a nice assortment of charcuterie (the salting and smoking are done on the premises), salmon (also smoked on the premises), scrambled eggs, delicious homemade jams, regional yogurts and honey, cheese, pancakes, pastries, a large choice of breads, kouglof and homemade cakes, dried and fresh fruits, compote… There is something for every taste, including people with allergies: gluten-free cereals or soy milk are on offer for example.

Beverage-wise, you’ll find organic fruit juices, freshly pressed orange juice, cider, Crémant d’Alsace, Nespresso coffee or tea.

The breakfast room is very pleasant with impressive paneling and a luminous veranda. It’s ideal to start the day!

Gastronomic restaurant

The restaurant of La Cheneaudière is a gastronomic restaurant. Directed by the chef Roger Bouhassoun, Maître Cuisinier de France, he offers a quite traditional French cuisine, but with a great fineness and made with high quality products. I particularly enjoyed the emphasis on regional products: I could taste for example a delicate sauerkraut made with Alsatian river fish and a soufflé made with Nussbaumer Plum Liqueur (the distillery is only a few kilometers away). The bread is entirely homemade, partly in a wood-fired oven located in front of the hotel. Aromatic herbs are cultivated by the chef in a garden of the hotel, to be used in the kitchen. A beautiful spirit!

Nature Spa at La Cheneaudière

I had already told you about it, the Spa at La Cheneaudière is splendid (click on the link to read the dedicated article). It got the price of the Best Hotel Spa in Europe, as well as the price of the Best Relais & Châteaux Spa).

When you book a room, you’ll get free access to the spa from 3.30pm on your arrival day, until 11am on your departure date, with the spa open from 9.30 am to 7.30pm.

The Hostellerie La Cheneaudière is located in Colroy-la-Roche, a small village located at about 500 meters of altitude. Colroy-la-Roche has the double benefit of being sufficiently lost to have an extremely quiet setting, all the while being easily accessible from Strasbourg (50 minutes) or Colmar (55 minutes). It’s ideal to spend a week-end in the nature, in a real haven of peace surrounded by nature!

I liked

  • A splendid place in a peaceful setting
  • Excellent breakfast buffet
  • Splendid Nature Spa
  • Thoughtful service

I liked a little less

  • Little to no phone network: great to cut yourself from the world, but not always practical!
