I’ll tell you right away; yes, I’m one of those people who are annoyed by this new mode of transportation – pseudo futuristic and ecological – that are the gyropods(Segway, brand n°1). Maybe I should use the past tense for this sentence because I admit I gave in, I tested it by going for a segway ride in Strasbourg… and I loved it, but let me explain!
Segway rental in Alsace with One City Tours
On a beautiful late afternoon in June, I went with 2 friends to One City Tours, the main supplier of this balancing activity that is the segway in Strasbourg. The reception is friendly and the premises just functional with an impressive garage of machines (there is also bike rental with or without electric assistance too!).
After the usual formalities, we are ready to ride our somewhat untamed mounts! But the kindness and patience of Yves will have been right of our apprehensions; we understand “the trick” once we let go, and at this level we are not all equal. We were not reckless, but with this small height and speed on the pedestrians without taking more space, we saw Strasbourg like never before!

The principle of a segway rental at One City Tours is that it is always accompanied and embellished with little stories, anecdotes (but not the History by a professional guide) and fun exercises.
The best-seller is of course the tour that allows you to discover the historical center by segway (Strasbourg cathedral, Petite France, Place Broglie, German Quarter…), but you can extend the tour to the European institutions in 2 hours, which is very practical for a first global approach of the city.
Where I was more surprised as a local, it is the nature tour that plunges us into the urban park of Strasbourg and offers a very pleasant instant greening; I even heard about a possible tour with gourmet stops. This really allows you to (re)discover Strasbourg in a fun and unusual way!
In conclusion, when I see these troublemakers now I almost envy them the feeling of ” first time in Segway “I can only invite you to test this gadget because “only fools don’t change their mind”, it seems!

The price is 45€ on average, it’s not cheap but there is technology in a Segway. One City Tour is open every day from 10am to 7pm. It is preferable to book in advance between a few hours and a few months before your arrival (depending on the date!).
