I went in the Cabinet de Curiosités by chance. Quite frankly, I had seen the jams and gingerbread of Christine Ferber in the window display and I was irresistibly drawn. It’s then that I realized I didn’t know this shop of Colmar. And what beautiful things you can find inside!
Old books, engravings, drawings, photographs, paintings, pretty little objects such as notebooks, bookmarks, greetings cards… Of course, in the middle of all this, you will find the products of Christine Ferber. They are only here during Christmas times, but they fit in seamlessly in the shop atmosphere. A good cup of tea and I could settle in the shop for the whole afternoon. I know, it’s not the point, but I stayed 1 hour in the shop chatting.
In addition to the bookshop (called Le Cadratin), the Cabinet de Curiosités hosts a calligraphy workshop (Callicrea). I had an idea of what was calligraphy, but I had no idea of all the possible applications. When I visited Valérie’s workshop (open to the public and to see her work), I was impressed by the diversity of her job: writing pieces, decorative plates, plume drawings, notebooks… she can use all types of materials and the result is quite impressive!
If you would like to make a present or bring back a nice artisanal souvenir from Alsace, I would definitely recommend having a look at this place. For those interested, Valérie also offers calligraphy classes, for an initiation to this art.
- A superb shop with a lot of beautiful objects
- Warm welcome: you can easily chat and learn a lot!
- Local crafts
I liked a little less
- Christine Ferber’s products are only available during Christmas times, but it’s already something!
