Today, I propose you the story of a superb family day in the Valley of Villé under one of these suns which magnifies the colors of autumn; of course, in any season you will be able to do the same! It all started with the need for a breath of fresh air to recharge the batteries (and the lungs!). But with a child under 2 years old, we are torn between the desire to share this pleasure and the organization that this adventure requires. For that, some well-meaning people have created adapted nature tours: I tested the stroller trail of the Urbeis pass.

First of all, follow the signs ” Col d’Urbeis ” because depending on where you come from, it is well after the village of Urbeis. It all starts on a well-equipped parking lot at the gateway to the Vosges, with a lovely wooden hiker’s cottage. Thanks to the sign “Stroller path” clearly visible, here we are for a 1 hour walk in the forest; on paper, because in reality, plan for 1h30 with a child who loves to pick up pebbles, scratch the stick and make “scratch” in the leaves! The trail largely keeps its promises: the ground is easily walkable, the difference in altitude is very small, the landscapes are varied, the views are superb (with benches!)… The city dwellers breathe.

Obviously at the end of the walk, noon had passed, the bellies were rumbling! Fortunately, before the departure a clever phone call had been made to reserve in a farmhouse, a concept I am totally fan of, literally addicted since a few months!
So we had lunch 3kms away, in the ferme auberge des Cimes which offers a unique menu for lunch at the price of 22€ (starter, main course, cheese, dessert). The agriculture is organic, the decoration warm, the store practical and the staff adorable. My lips are still quivering at the thought of delicious homemade ice cream!

The best part of this expedition is that several times during the day there was no network (neither phone, nor internet)… And the luxury is maybe the disconnection 😉 Don’t hesitate to share your good stroller tips in the comments of this article!

As a bonus, here is a selection of other activities to do along the way (watch out for opening days and hours!):
– The famous Climont jams
– The other nature spots ; Champs du Feu, Hohwald, Mont Saint-Odile
– Farm products from the Haag store in Saint-Pierre
– Mittelbergheim among the “most beautiful villages of France
Gertwiller, the gingerbread town between the touristic Fortwenger (its store, its Gingerbread Palace) and the authentic Lips (its store and its Gingerbread and Alsatian Folk Art Museum)

And without the children:
– The spa “Chez Julien” in Fouday or “La Chenaudière” in Colroy-la-Roche
– The Distiller’s House of the Meyer distillery in Châtenois
– The winegrowers of the Alsace wine route

My pictures of the stroller path of the Urbeis pass and the meal in a farmhouse

I liked

  • Perpetually, let yourself be surprised by the landscapes of Alsace
  • Enjoying nature with your family
  • Enjoy a meal in a farmhouse

I liked less

  • The surrounding tourist activities are closed on Sundays

Practical information

Information about the trail can be found here.

Access

By car

The address is as follows: Urbeis Pass. You have to count:

  • 63km from Strasbourg (about 55min)
  • 47km from Colmar (about 48min)
  • 88km from Mulhouse (about 1h07)
By public transport

This is not possible :-/

Hungry?

If you are hungry, go to the Ferme-auberge des Cimes which I mentioned above. Please note that reservations are required and that the farmhouses are generally closed in winter.

There is also a sheltered picnic table in the parking lot of the stroller path.

Vivine
