In the current frenzy of entertainment of all kinds (escape game, destroy room or others…), let’s go back to the basics: cards, pieces, boards… Welcome to a game bar, the Philibar, linked to the famous game store in Strasbourg Philibert (what a play on words!).
Invited to discover this new establishment on the Place des Halles side, Laurène and I chose to stop by for lunch; let’s not forget that to win, you have to eat and drink well! That’s my surprise, the Philibar is a good table, really: from the snack to the dish or the dessert, everything is home-made . Inspired from here and elsewhere, carnivorous, vegan or vegetarian, the menu is small but there is something for everyone! On the drink side, the choice is vast between fresh fruit juices, beers, cocktails…
Going there to play is not compulsory but so tempting when you see the shelves filled with more than 350 games (sorted out by hand!). To avoid getting lost, don’t forget to visit the Philibar website, which lists a few games by theme (atmosphere, family, expert, children, two players, solo, group, cooperative, must-haves, classics, favorites) and don’t hesitate to ask the staff! You can explain what you want and they will suggest suitable games. Be careful, they will not explain the rules as it is done in some game bars, it will be up to you to read them to play.
We have been well identified, it will be for both of us a quick and easy to understand game: the Poule Poule! A card game where you have to count the number of eggs that made us laugh and I won’t say who won the game 😉 (edit from Laurène: Vivine blew me away!)
All in all, I am conquered, I want to go there come back to play with my little one at snack time, my friends at dinner time when there is entertainment and my colleagues thanks to the large group space upstairs; rain or shine – there is air conditioning and the terrace will soon be in place!
- The tables are large enough to play on and have slots for drinks
- The diversity of the games
- The quality of the plates
I liked less
- Maybe too much orange in the decoration… You better like this color!
