I have already written here about a bike ride starting from Strasbourg and I know that you enjoyed that article. So here is a second itinerary, that will lead you to the other side of the Rhine, all the way to Germany. The itinerary only follows bicycle paths: it is quite pleasant not to have any car disturbances!
The itinerary starts in the district of Neudorf in Strasbourg, quickly meeting the Deux-Rives Garden (a Franco-German garden located on both sides of the Rhine) and then crosses the Deux-Rives Footbridge that goes to Germany. It then goes along the Rhine, sometimes along the water, at other times on small country trails and at some point, it joins the famous Piste des Forts (The Forts Trail). This part of the ride is so very pretty, quiet and incredibly bucolic…
It’s then time to go back to France via the Pfimlin Bridge, and follow the road for a little bit: this part is not pleasant, because there is a lot of traffic, but the bicycle path is protected from the cars and it’s very safe. Please note that there are some works on part of the path, but I was still able to cycle it.
The itinerary then meets quickly Neuhof Forest and its pretty paths, and then the shores of the Rhone-Rhine Canal, which are also very pleasant. It then only remains to cycle along the canal to Strasbourg. If you wish, you can take a detour and go for a swim in Baggersee Lake (there is a sign and it takes about 10 minutes one way and 10 minutes back to get there): in summer, it could be a great idea!
- A pleasant and easy ride
- Very varied landscapes: Rhine, forest, canal…
- Cycling paths all along the itinerary
- An itinerary between France and Germany
I liked a little less
- A short part is along the road (but it’s protected).
