The Spa Chez Julien is one of the most well-known spas in Alsace. If you ask someone what is the best spa in Alsace, they will generally answer Chez Julien or La Cheneaudière. I have tested both of them and I must say that I do prefer La Cheneaudière, even though I really liked Chez Julien as well.

Chez Julien is a three-star hotel-restaurant located in the Alsatian side of the Vosges, not far from the ski resort Champ du Feu. Chez Julien offers a Day Spa package for those not staying at the hotel, so you can have an access to the spa during the day, have lunch in the spa restaurant and possibly have some treatments.

With a space of 2000 m2, the spa Chez Julien is divided into four main areas: the family space, cocooning, wellness and the fitness room. The family area, accessible to children, has a pool, a Jaccuzzi, a sauna and a hammam. It is the oldest part of the spa, but it’s still very pretty. The cocooning area has a large indoor pool extending to the outside and confortable deckchairs to rest and relax. Finally, the wellness area has a large Jaccuzzi, a salt cave, a Kneipp, a sensory shower (shower alternating hot and cold water), a hammam, a sauna and a Sanarium (it’s a little bit between the hammam and the sauna in terms of temperature and humidity).

The spa very beautiful and offers very pretty viewpoints over the surrounding Vosges landscapes. I spent most of my time in the wellness area, that I really enjoyed (my favourites spots were the salt cave and it’s waterbeds where I fell asleep and the lager Jacuzzi with a view onto the mountains!). However, I was a bit disappointed by the other areas, because the water in the pools was a bit too cold for a spa in my opinion (between 26 and 29°). I probably wasn’t the only one thinking that, as most pools were empty…

The lunch included in the Day Spa package is served at the Café Julien (the spa restaurant). You will be served a starter, a main and a dessert. I very much enjoyed my meal, on a sunlit table close to a patio door overlooking the terrace. A very pleasant moment!

I liked

  • A beautiful spa with many different facilities
  • View on the Vosges landscapes
  • Bathrobe, slippers and towels are provided

I liked a little less

  • The water in the pools was too cold.
