Gîtes insolites Les Coccinelles – Funny wooden houses in Sainte-Croix aux Mines

Les coccinelles (ladybugs) are unusual lodgings in Alsace located in Sainte-Croix aux Mines, in the Valley of Sainte-Marie aux Mines. Les Coccinelles lodgings are located in funny wooden houses, whose architecture is immediately surprising when you discover them. These houses were indeed built during the development of a wasteland of the commune. An architectural competition was organized and won by the firm G. Studio, which created a group of houses that received theEcoquartier label.

By chance, two houses have now been transformed into gîtes: a large house of 80m2, which can accommodate 5 people, and a smaller one of 40m2, built later on the same model, which can accommodate 4 people. I think it’s great to be able to discover and stay in an architect’s house, it’s not very common! The two cottages are both unusual but each has its own personality: the larger one has impressive volumes while the smaller one is a cocoon where it is nice to curl up. In both cases, the materials used are natural, the view pleasant and the decoration well done. You feel immediately comfortable and away from the hustle and bustle!

As far as equipment is concerned, nothing to say, there is almost everything in the two gites: the only thing missing is a washing machine. Bed linen and towels are also provided.

Gîte La Grande Coccinelle

The large gite has impressive volumes and huge bay windows. It is a pleasant place that can accommodate 5 people: there are two rooms with double beds and a single bed on the mezzanine. You really get a sense of space, enhanced by the view of nature from the windows! The house also has a large terrace and a garden.

My stay in the Little Beetle

I was invited to stay in the Little Ladybug, where I had a really good time. I enjoyed the evening spent with a book on the terrace and then in the hammock chair in the living room and loved spending the morning in a space bathed in light, due to the many openings in the house. One has the impression of being cut off from the world, even though the neighboring houses and the road are not far. It must be said that the place is really quiet and comfortable. Even if the space is not very large in the Little Beetle, it has been very well optimized and one does not feel cramped. However, I think it is better to come with two than with four (or two adults and two children), otherwise we will run out of space. There is one bedroom, located on the first floor, and a sofa bed.

Location

Les Coccinelles cottages are located in Sainte-Croix aux Mines, in the Sainte-Marie aux Mines Valley. It’s not the most touristic place but it’s still very pleasant. First of all, because we are in the green and we can easily take advantage of the joys of the Vosges. Secondly, because the location is central enough to allow easy access to many tourist attractions: the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, for example, is only 20 minutes away, the Wine Route as well, Colmar is 45 minutes away and Strasbourg 1 hour. You are also in the Val d’Argent, place of the old silver mines. It can therefore be interesting to visit the Tellure Park or to take a guided tour of a mine with Asepam.

I liked

  • Unusual architecture
  • Wooden house and decoration in natural materials
  • Comfort of the lodgings
  • Animals allowed

I liked less

  • Be careful not to hit your head when you go upstairs in the Little Beetle!
  • It can quickly become very hot when the sun hits the windows
