Les Coccinelles are unusual gîtes in Alsace located in Sainte-Croix aux Mines, in the Valley of Sainte-Marie aux Mines. The gîtes Les Coccinelles are located in quirky wooden houses, whose architecture is quite surprising at first sight. These houses have indeed been built during the development of a wild land of the town. An architecture competition was organized and won by the firm G. Studio. They designed a set of houses, that later received the Ecodistrict certification label.
Quite luckily, two houses have now been turned into gîtes: a large 80m2 house, which can host 5 people, and a smaller 40m2 house, built later on, on the same model, which can host 4 people. I really find it awesome that it’s possible to discover and stay in architect-designed houses… it’s quite uncommon! Both of these gîtes are unusual, but they both have their own character: the largest one boasts impressive volumes, while the smallest one is like a cocoon, where it’s wonderful to curl up. In both cases, the materials used are natural, the views are pleasant and careful decoration has been implemented. It’s immediately confortable and far away from the hustle and bustle!
Equipment-wise, there is almost everything you might need in both gîtes: only a washing machine is missing. Linens and towels are also supplied.
Gîte La Grande Coccinelle
The largest gîte boasts impressive volumes and huge bay windows. It’s a pleasant place that can host 5 people: there are two rooms with double beds and a single bed on the mezzanine. It really gives a sense of space, accentuated by the view on nature from the windows! The house also has a large patio and a garden.
My stay in La Petite Coccinelle (The small ladybird)
I was invited to stay in La Petite Coccinelle, where I really had a good time. I enjoyed the evening spent with a book on the patio, and then on the hammock chair of the living room. I absolutely loved spending my morning in a space bathed in light, because of the countless windows and openings of the house. It gave me a little bit the impression to be cut off from the world, even though the neighbouring houses and the road are not that far away. I must admit that it’s a really quiet and confortable place. Even if there is not that much space in La Petite Coccinelle, it has been very well optimised and you won’t feel hemmed in. However, I believe it’s better to be only two people rather than four (except if it’s two adults and two children), or you might not have enough space. There is one room upstairs and a bed settee.
The gîtes Les Coccinelles are located in Sainte-Croix aux Mines, in the valley of Sainte-Marie aux Mines. It’s not the most touristic location, but it’s still very pleasant. First of all, because you’ll be surrounded by nature and you’ll be able to easily enjoy all the pleasures and activities of the Vosges. Secondly, because the location is fairly central and you’ll be able to easily get to quite a few touristic attractions: Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, for example is only 20 minutes away and so is the Wine Route. Colmar is 45 minutes away and Strasbourg, 1h away. You’ll be located in the Val d’Argent, where you can find the former silver mines. It could therefore be interesting to visit the Park of Tellure or to take a guided tour of a mine with the Asepam.
