If you are looking for a charming bed and breakfast in Alsace, the Maison d’Emilie is an ideal place. This guest house is located in an old 17th century building in the heart of the village of Pfaffenheim, south of Colmar on the Alsace Wine Route. The owners, Emilie and Guillaume, have undertaken major works to completely restore this house and make it what it is today: a place both comfortable and full of charm.
Two buildings make up the guest house: one has three bedrooms, a small common living room and the kitchen/dining room, while the other has two bedrooms. Between the two buildings there is a large garden with a swimming pool. Really nice to swim in during the hot summer days in Alsace! It is also pleasant to have this small common living room.
The welcome of Emilie, Guillaume and their children is really nice. You feel at once well in the house and this is also what makes the charm of the guest houses in general: the meetings with the hosts, which are always pleasant moments of sharing.
I stayed in the Bergamot room but also had the opportunity to visit a few others. All the rooms are spacious, comfortable, have the charm of the old (if you like half-timbering, you won’t be disappointed!) and are tastefully decorated. They all have their own personality, which is nice too.
One of the big assets of the Maison d’Emilie is without a doubt its table d’hôtes. To test imperatively if it is available when you go there!
The dinner is prepared by Guillaume, a chef who has worked in many starred establishments around the world. Guillaume emphasizes seasonal and local products in his dishes, without cooking traditional Alsatian dishes. This is good because it changes, especially since you will have other opportunities to taste the specialties during your stay in Alsace. I really enjoyed this dinner: each dish was incredibly fine and full of flavors, a real delight!
The kitchen being open to the dining room, you will be able to observe Guillaume at work in the preparation of the dishes. It’s always nice to see!
The breakfast at the Maison d’Emilie is also excellent. On the menu: bread, pastries and kougelhopf, cold meats and cheese, homemade jams, fresh fruit salad… It is very copious and of high quality.
La Maison d’Emilie is located in Pfaffenheim, a very pretty wine village 15 minutes from Colmar and 30 minutes from Mulhouse. The situation of Pfaffenheim is really pleasant because it allows you to take advantage of many interesting things in Alsace: the Wine Route and its winegrowers, the visit of the cities of Colmar and Mulhouse. You can also go hiking in the Vosges and even skiing in the winter. The choice is endless!
