Are there any gourmets and food lovers here? How about people who would like to discover Alsatian gastronomy? I bet that you do and I have a good idea for an activity for you guys! How about trying Tasty Trip, a foodie walk in Strasbourg?

The concept is simple. After buying a Tasty Trip booklet each, you’ll follow the booklet itinerary at your own rhythm, leading you to interesting sites in Strasbourg, but also of course to different shops and restaurants, where you will of course enjoy each time… a tasting! On the menu, you will discover many Alsatian specialties. You’ll start with a mini-kugelhopf, and then taste craft beer, Alsace wine, a pretzel, bredele, gingerbread, regional cheese, Alsatian charcuterie, a mini-pâtisserie made of a fromage blanc tart and finally… foie gras!

The products are of very good quality: the places you’ll be visiting are for the most of them, Strasbourg institutions offering tasty specialties. The quantities are quite variable, but they are sometimes very generous: I can tell you that you will eat a lot (too much?), if you do the whole tour. Prepare yourself for the tour with a light lunch or diner and spend the whole afternoon, to have time to go to all the places. I would actually recommend to spread out the tastings on two days (you are allowed to!), to eat less and avoid switching too much between sweet and savoury.

The Tasty Trip booklet is generally well done, even if it’s not very clear at the beginning (but a new version is under development). Very interesting explanations are provided about each specialty tasted, but also about the famous sites on your walk. It’s a good way to learn while you play, learning during your foodie walk!

I liked

  • A nice and interesting foodie walk
  • Good quality Alsatian specialties
  • Excellent value

I liked a little less

  • It’s not always possible to chat with the owners: it really depends from one shop to the next!
  • In one afternoon, it was a lot of alternating between sweet and savoury!
