The Maison du Fromage de la Vallée de Munster is a museum entirely dedicated to the famous Munster cheese and to the traditions linked to it in the Valley of Munster. A promising theme but, I might as well tell you right away, this museum disappointed me.

On the program of the visit, a small circuit where you can read some panels on the cheeses, a film on the 4 seasons in the Valley of Munster, the visit of a cheese dairy, a stable with some cows from the Vosges and a demonstration of manufacture of munster. I loved the movie but the rest is disappointing.

We visit the cheese factory behind the windows with only small explanatory panels (and as the weekend the machines are stopped it is not exciting) and the demonstration of manufacture of cheese is sympathetic but too expedient. We still learn some things but it could really be better, especially considering the price. To top it all off, there will be no tasting of munster cheese. You can only taste the Siesskass, the fresh cheese.

It remains to go to the store to taste a piece of munster if you want to buy some, which is not really proposed with a smile…

I liked

  • The film about the 4 seasons in the Valley of Munster
  • Learn more about the making of Munster cheese
  • Partner of the Pass Alsace

I liked less

  • The price, very expensive for a visit far from extraordinary
  • The fact of not tasting munster
  • Staff not always very friendly
