The Zinck Hotel is a small family-run hotel located in Andlau, a village of the Alsace wine route between Sélestat and Obernai. This 3-star hotel is managed by Alexandre Zinck, who took over from his parents and is now warmly welcoming his clients in a pleasant and slightly unique setting. Why unique? Because, each of the 18 rooms of the hotel is decorated with a specific theme: there is a wine-growing room, a baroque room, a jazzy one, a colonial room, a pop room or even a 1001 nights one… Unique and successful!
Beyond the rooms, the Zinck Hotel also has an unusual history: the building used to be a manufacture, as you can see from the high chimney outside, as well as from the imposing mill wheel, which is remarkably preserved and that you can admire in the breakfast room.
Another advantage rests upon the fact that the hotel has a beautiful orchard, where it must be very pleasant to spend some time in the sun with a book. I was there in winter, but I still wanted to linger around. A quiet place, grass, trees, little tables and a view on the vineyard… what else could you ask for?
My room at the Zinck Hotel
I slept in the Baroque room. This room is very spacious and beautifully decorated, with a big and beautiful bed. The bathroom is not huge, but still has a bathtub. The hotel is very quiet and the beds are comfortable.
The breakfast buffet of the Zinck Hotel is quite small, but very qualitative. A choice that I really enjoy! Some of my favorites were the organic bread (from a neighboring bakery), the organic cooked ham (also coming from a local butcher) and the freshly squeezed orange juice. You’ll also find the excellent organic tea from the Jardins de Gaïa (an Alsatian brand), pastries, jams, cheese, cereals, fresh and dried fruits… There is definitely everything you may need and it’s really tasty.
Breakfast is served in the large room with the mill wheel, which gives it a certain cachet. During the summer season, it is also possible to enjoy breakfast on the hotel terrace.
Location of the Zinck Hotel
The Zinck Hotel is very well-located. It is not in the center of Andlau, but only a few minutes walk away (the village is not very big anyways!) Andlau, besides being a lovely and little known village, is an excellent base to visit Alsace: it is located between Colmar and Strasbourg and on the Wine Route. It is therefore very easy to access Alsace tourist attractions (Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, visit of Riquewihr, Kaysersberg or Obernai for example), but also to go for a walk in the surrounding nature. Pretty ideal!
- Originality of room decorations
- Good products for breakfast
- Welcoming boss, who has good advice about the things to see/do in the area
- Good value
I liked a little less
- Wi-Fi is only available in the Hall for now
