My good addresses of restaurants in Colmar

by | Updated on 8/11/2023 | Colmar, Restaurants | 4 comments

Are you looking for a good restaurant in Colmar? Good news, there are many of them!

To give you a hand in your choice, I propose you here my selection of good addresses. I don’t know if these are the best restaurants in Colmar (it’s far too subjective), but they are in any case the addresses I would recommend to friends asking for advice.

I privileged the French and Alsatian restaurants because they are the ones that we generally want to try during a stay in Alsace. I have not included the starred restaurants for the moment, which are a bit “out of category”.

For lovers of organic food and vegetarians, I invite you to read my article on organic and vegetarian restaurants in Colmar.

This list is not set in stone and will evolve as my favorites change… There is no hierarchy between the restaurants on the list.

And if you are also looking for a restaurant in Strasbourg, don’t hesitate to consult my good addresses of restaurants in Strasbourg.

My guide to Colmar

Plan an unforgettable stay in Colmar without wasting time looking for information with my guidebook : the most beautiful places, the activities not to be missed and the best addresses!

Wistub Brenner (traditional Alsatian cuisine in Little Venice)

bibalaskas-wistub-brenner-colmar

The first time I went to the Wistub Brenner, I was 18 years old and it was my first time in Alsace. Since then, I have grown up, I live in Colmar and the Wistub Brenner is the place where I bring my friends to taste good traditional Alsatian food. I have never been disappointed!

You can taste a good sauerkraut, bibalaskas, a pie of the valley or pork shank… Many specialties of Alsace!

Chef Daniel Queille’s philosophy:“Buy the best from the best and make it simple but good“. Personally, it speaks to me!

I liked

  • Alsatian cuisine with good products.
  • The location, in the heart of Little Venice
  • The large terrace in summer, the decoration inside
  • Friendly service

I liked less

  • Nothing!
I love their Bibalaskas. In addition to the traditional cottage cheese and fried potatoes, it is accompanied by smoked ham and munster cheese. Simple but delicious!

La Cour des Anges (French cuisine with vegan options + tarts flambées)

restaurant-vegetarian-colmar-cour-anges

La Cour des Anges is exactly the kind of restaurant I love: located in the center of Colmar while being a bit sheltered, with a well decorated room and a nice terrace, and where you eat of course very well!

On the menu, homemade dishes, with an emphasis on organic and local products (the producers are proudly mentioned on the menu) and suitable for all types of diets. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan or carnivore, you will find what you are looking for. I personally enjoyed it!

Even if the dishes are generally not “traditional Alsatian” (which is also good!), I advise you to try the flambéed tarts, whose pastry is home-made (it’s rare!) and the filling is of great quality.

I liked

  • Home-made, organic and local
  • Delicious and different dishes from what you can find elsewhere in Colmar
  • Suitable for all diets!

I liked less

  • Vegetable flambéed pie a bit bland

Jadis et Gourmande (Alsatian cuisine)

restaurant-colmar-jadis-gourmande

I already talked to you about Jadis et Gourmande in my article about the best tea rooms in Colmar. In addition to the afternoon tea room, Jadis et Gourmande is a restaurant open for lunch.

The place is really warm, with a brocante style decoration and teddy bears everywhere. You feel good right away!

As for the cuisine, Jadis et Gourmande offers many traditional Alsatian dishes, but more original than the sauerkraut and baeckeoffe that can be found everywhere. For example, you can taste a meat pie, fleischnakas, lawerknepfla… Mostly meat dishes but some vegetarian dishes are also on the menu. Everything is tasty and served in very generous portions. Save a little room for dessert, the pies are huge and fabulous (the best in Colmar for me… In spring I can’t resist the rhubarb meringue pie) and the delicious chestnut torch as well.

The only drawback is the sometimes dry welcome of the owner. Otherwise, the service is generally pleasant. Don’t forget to make a reservation: it’s a crowded restaurant, even in the low tourist season!

I liked

  • Tasty and hearty dishes
  • Varied Alsatian cuisine
  • Warm atmosphere

I liked less

  • Sometimes dry reception

Le Petit Bidon (French cuisine)

restaurant-colmar-le-petit-bidon

The restaurant Le Petit Bidon is a very nice place to enjoy a good French cuisine, sometimes with a little Alsatian touch. On the menu, a relatively small menu and a few suggestions of the day, a sign that everything is fresh. And indeed, you can feel it when you taste the dishes, they are delicious! Many basic products are purchased from local producers: cheese, vegetables or ice cream for example.

As for the decoration, the whole is successful, with a rather sober atmosphere and some nice objects including big milk cans. The suggestions of the day are written on one of these cans!

As a bonus, the reception and the service are very smiling.

I liked

  • Very good cuisine
  • Pleasant decoration
  • Very friendly reception and service
  • Nice wine list with many Alsatian wines

I liked less

  • Nothing!

Le Quai 21 (French cuisine)

quai-21-restaurant

Located in the district of Petite Venise in Colmar, the former restaurant Le Frichti’s has been replaced by the restaurant Le Quai 21. The atmosphere of the previous restaurant and the fine and seasonal cuisine are found here. After having had a crush on its predecessor, I must say that I was also really seduced by this one!

We especially like the menu of the day, served at lunchtime during the week. A starter, a main course and a dessert of great quality changing every day are served for 28€. You can view the menu in advance on the restaurant’s Facebook page. It’s a real treat, I recommend it!

The setting of Pier 21 is as good as the food. Located in a former fishmonger’s shop, the decoration is elegant and warm. The service is also pleasant.

I liked

  • Refined and original cuisine based on fresh products
  • Elegant decoration
  • Rooftop Terrace

I liked less

  • Nothing!

L’épicurien, wine bistro (French cuisine)

magret-oie-epicurien-restaurant-colmar

L’épicurien is a wine bistro located in the heart of Little Venice in Colmar. On the menu, a cuisine based on fresh products, rather French but also giving pride of place to other inspirations. The choice is difficult, everything is tempting!

The wine list is impressive and the epicurean also offers a few Alsatian craft beers. Notice to amateurs!

Finally, the “wood, slates and wine bottles” atmosphere of the decoration gives a friendly atmosphere to the restaurant and the service is pleasant.

I liked

  • Good food
  • Friendly atmosphere
  • Nice wine list
  • All the starters are also available as a main course

I liked less

  • Nothing!

La Cocotte de Grand-Mère (French cuisine)

colmar-restaurant-cocotte-grandmother

La Cocotte de Grand-mère is a small restaurant offering French cuisine. All the products are fresh, seasonal and the dishes are home-made. The menu changes every day. A unique menu is offered at lunchtime (it can be consulted on the website). In the evening, you can choose from a small menu of suggestions. A very nice place to enjoy!

I liked

  • A delicious cuisine based on fresh and seasonal products
  • The place: a small and nicely decorated space in which you feel good
  • Friendly welcome

I liked less

  • At dinner, I would have liked a little more generous portions considering the price

Restaurant l’Echevin (gourmet French cuisine)

lamb-restaurant-echevin-colmar

The restaurant l’Echevin is the gastronomic restaurant of the hotel Le Maréchal, located on the banks of the Lauch river in the heart of the Little Venice in Colmar. Hard to find a better situation! During the summer months, it is even possible to have lunch on the terrace by the water.

L’Echevin offers very good French cuisine and good regional products. The decoration, in a very classical style, is successful. I had a great time!

I liked

  • The delicious menu of the day, available at lunchtime including Saturdays
  • The decoration
  • The location, in the heart of Little Venice
  • The children’s menu with market products

I liked less

  • Cold reception and a little bit of a stilted service
  • Service a little long

La Fleur de Sel (good Alsatian restaurant in Little Venice)

baeckeoffe-salt flower-colmar

La Fleur de Sel is a restaurant located in the Petite Venise in Colmar. The room is very small, which gives it a very special atmosphere. Surprising at first but finally nice! In summer, La Fleur de Sel has a very nice terrace on one of the quays of La petite Venise. The welcome is very warm.

On the menu, tarts flambées and suggestions of Alsatian cuisine. A good little address!

I liked

  • Simple but quality cuisine
  • Good value for money
  • Very friendly welcome
  • Nice terrace in summer

I liked less

  • Very small room, but it has its charm

La Soï (flamed pies)

Where to eat a good tarte flambée in Colmar? There are not tons of addresses: you will find many bad ones! Fortunately, you read this blog and are warned: you don’t eat tarte flambée just anywhere! The restaurant la Soï is a good address in Colmar to taste a delicious flammekueche.

The room is very small (reservation required!), with a simple decoration rather rustic and warm. The kitchen is behind the counter, so you can see the stove at work. The reception is friendly. A very good address in Colmar!

I liked

  • Very good flambéed pies
  • Location in the heart of downtown Colmar
  • Good quality/price ratio

I liked less

  • It’s very small, hard to get a place!

Au Soleil Levant (Japanese cuisine)

sushi-maki-sun-levant-colmar

If you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Colmar, or even in Alsace, I have the address you need!

I’ve tried a lot of Japanese restaurants in France, but Le Soleil Levant is definitely one of the best. It’s quite simple, I’ve never eaten sushi that melts like this.

At the helm is a true Japanese chef, Yasuaki Sato, originally from Yokohama.

I liked

  • Excellent sushi and giozas. I also tried some excellent little doughnuts as an appetizer
  • For those who do not like raw fish, the menu offers many other dishes
  • Friendly welcome

I liked less

  • Decoration correct but lacking a little charm
