Mulhouse boasts many charming cafes and tea rooms, pleasant places for a break and a good slice of cake. I haven’t tried yet all the addresses (actually not at all!), but let me start this article with two good addresses, until I get the chance to share more of my discoveries! :)
Le Temps d'une Pause - Books, coffee and concept store
Le Temps d'une pause is located right in the heart of Mulhouse city centre. It is one of my favourite cafes in Alsace. Yes, it's true that there are lots of good cafés in Strasbourg and in Colmar, but this one is still my all-time favourite. Tea room, café and store at the same time, it's one of the cosiest spot that I know.
My great pleasure is to come here to work. I can spend long hours in one of the large couches, my computer on my lap, working away while sipping a good cup of Nunshen tea (the other option is to read the available magazines... It's good too!). If couches are not your cup of tea - no pun intended -, there are also some tables for small and large groups.
The atmosphere is warm and the decoration, in a fairly eclectic style, is a success. The glass roof above the couches (my favourite spot, as you might have already guessed) brings in a beautiful light. The store corner overflows with pretty little creator objects.
You will find on the menu, good coffees, teas, hot chocolates, fresh fruit juices, as well as a few pastries (they are not homemade, but they are fine).
The welcome is warm and friendly and this is how you get the ideal spot to work / meet your friends / have a quiet break by yourself! As you might have understood, Le Temps d'une Pause is my absolute favourite!
- Very warm decoration and atmosphere
- Good teas, coffees, chocolates and fruit juices
- Very friendly staff
- A lot of cute stuff in the store
- Open on Sunday afternoons
I liked a little less
- The pastries are not homemade. They are fine, but it's nothing wonderful.
6€90 for an Americano and a slice of apricot cake.
You will find here the opening times for the café Le temps d'une pause.
Café Mozart - Elegance and fine pastries
Le Café Mozart is an institution in Mulhouse. Located on the first floor on Place de la Réunion, it's a quiet and elegant tea room (it's a bit cold to my taste), with a pretty view on the square and the church Saint-Etienne.
For fine pastry lovers, the Café Mozart serves excellent cakes from the Pâtisserie Jacques, located a few meters away. They have a large selection (it's hard to choose) and everything is so delicious... so much that portions might seem a bit small!
As for drinks, you will find on the menu, a very large selection of very good Damman teas, several homemade chocolate cakes, pressed fruit juices and of course coffees. You can also choose sodas, beers and wines: the Café Mozart is not only a café, but also a restaurant open for lunch.
Even better, the Café Mozart is part of the kid-friendly spots of Mulhouse, as selected by my friend Tiphanya.
- Excellent fine pastries
- Loose Dammann Frères teas
- The view on Place de la Réunion
I liked a little less
- Decoration and welcome a bit cold
6€70 for a Dammann tea and a small raspberry charlotte.
You will find here the opening times for the Café Mozart. To get there, please note that you have to get into the shopping mall and go to the first floor.
