Virtual Flight, a flight simulator on a Boeing 737

Have you always wanted to get inside a cockpit and to see how to fly an airliner? It is possible thanks to a flight simulator. I have tested for you the Virtual Flight simulator located in Châtenois, which reproduces in details the dashboard of a Boeing 737-800 and its various features.

The CEO of Virtual Flight, Michael Schueller has been passionate about this since a very young age and has built himself the flight simulator. This job took him 3 years to complete! It was a difficult challenge, but he succeeded: an airline transport pilot of a Boeing 737 came to try out the simulator and was impressed by its precision: apart from a few features that wouldn’t be useful for a simulator (to send a message to passengers for example), everything has been precisely reproduced. It is for example possible to simulate an engine breakdown, a flight in poor visibility conditions, an emergency landing, etc.

Depending on the chosen package and the duration, you will be confronted to different situations. I had to do a quick flight between Basel and Strasbourg airports. Please note that decors from the screen are based on the real landscapes and that the weather is the same as the current weather conditions! I learned how to throttle, take off, pilot the plane, land… And I can tell you that it is not easy! I landed before the runway (oops!) and I think I would have made all my passengers sick during the flight because I had problems to stay on course!

Throughout the flight, Michael explained me many things and I discovered a fascinating universe. I left the simulator, which a much better idea of how an airliner is flown: it was an interesting and impressive experience!

I liked

  • The realism of the flight simulator: very impressive!
  • Discovering how to pilot an airliner
  • Michael is a real enthusiast and you can feel it!

I liked a little less

  • Nothing!
