Gîte Les Hydrangéas in Ribeauvillé – a Duplex with terrace in the heart of the pedestrian center

The gîte Les Hydrangéas de Ribeauvillé is a large duplex gîte of 140m2, which can accommodate 8 to 10 people. This is not very common, especially as it is located right in the heart of the historical centre of Ribeauvillé, in the main street.  The owner, Marie, immediately fell in love for this flat under the rafters, in a small and old building, which, as luck would have it, also has a large terrace. However, it required major renovation works and Marie undertook them… It was a mammoth task, and we can now admire the result: a splendid flat with the charm of the old AND a refined and modern decoration. I truly fell in love with the place!

A large gîte in Ribeauvillé

The gîte Les Hydrangéas has 4 rooms for 2 people (including two upstairs as the duplex), a well as a sofa bed. It boasts 2 bathrooms (including one with a beautiful bathtub), one on each floor. These are very confortable conditions, if you are a large group, especially as the bathrooms are very spacious. The rooms, the living room, the dining room and the kitchen are also very big and you’ll feel super confortable staying there. Equipement wise, everything is there: dishwasher, oven, micro-wave, coffee machines, washing machine and dryer… and even nice basic essentials like herbal teas, oil, etc. You can clearly see that everything has been thought out for the confort of the guests. Marie also prepares a welcome kougelhopf… a very kind and delicate gesture.

Special mention to the bedding, which is very confortable, and to the household linens (linens and towels are provided) coming from the Vosges. It’s local and of excellent quality!

The only small fault of the flat is that it lacks some light (because it’s under the rafters and therefore openings are quite small), but it’s largely counterbalanced by the nice volumes of the rooms, the cheerful decoration and the terrace.

This terrace was one of my big surprises when discovering the gîte. It is located just below the kitchen and it is surprisingly spacious. You’ll find there a large table, a few chairs around a coffee table and even a barbecue! Now, being able to fire up a barbecue on a terrace right in the centre of Ribeauvillé, that’s pretty cool!

The Hydrangéas are ideally located: right in the heart of Ribeauvillé, in the pedestrian part. The beautiful half-timbered houses and adorable cobbled streets are awaiting you, as soon as you step out of the gîte! You will love walking around the charming Ribeauvillé, going out for dinner and coming back in this confortable gîte for the night! If you come by car, please note that you’ll have to park outside the historical center (as it’s pedestrian). There are a few free parking spots a few minutes away on foot, otherwise, you’ll have to go a bit further, but it still will be fine. And it’s impossible to have this dream location and the car at the bottom of the gîte at the same time anyways! 😉

Ribeauvillé is a village of the Alsace Wine Route, located not far from Colmar. It’s quite an ideal location to explore the region, because there are a lot of beautiful villages to visit in the area. You’ll also be able to easily go and visit Colmar and even reach Strasbourg (1h drive).

I liked

  • Spacious and confortable flat
  • Elegant decoration, mixing old and new
  • Large capacity for 8 to 10 people
  • Location in the heart of Ribeauvillé
  • Large terrace

I liked a little less

  • Not very bright
