Hôtel Graffalgar in Strasbourg – Design and urban art

by | Dec 6, 2018 | Hotels | 0 comments

The hotel Graffalgar in Strasbourg is a modern and innovative hotel. What is the concept? Each room has been decorated by different local artists. The style is very urban, as if there was a street art work in each room! Common areas are not outdone, since they also have been decorated by the artists.

The hotel regularly hosts various exhibitions. More than a hotel, the Graffalgar wants to be a real place of exchanges. It really surprised me: you feel like you are in a Berlin alternative space, so it’s really cool to have such a place in Strasbourg! If you want to get out for a while of half-timbered houses and their woody atmosphere to dive into “urban design”, the Graffalgar is probably the right place for you…

Note: All common areas, as well as some rooms are accessible for people with reduced mobility.

My room at the hotel Graffalgar

My room was n°108, a single room decorated by the Strasbourg artist Missy. It was small and equipped with sober furniture, but I loved it! It was really pleasant to have a work of art in my room, especially as I really liked the piece. I felt comfortable there straight away.

The room was clean and the bed was decent. It was a bit noisy despite, double glazing, because it was overlooking the street. The bathroom was small, but well equipped. It just needed a few extra spaces to put down your stuff. In the end, I spent a pleasant night there.

Breakfast at Graffalgar

The breakfast at Graffalgar is rather good. The buffet offers a choice of tea, coffee, croissants, bread, organic yogurts and Bonne Maman jams… Nothing extraordinary, but it’s good!

The breakfast room also serves as cafeteria during the day and is very pleasant.

The Graffalgar is very well located, only a 5 minutes walk from Strasbourg train station. It’s not the prettiest area of Strasbourg, but it’s very practical and La Petite France is only 10 minutes walk away!

I liked

  • The hotel decoration: it’s a real urban art museum!
  • The fact that each room is unique
  • Practical location
  • Good value for money

I liked a little less

  • A little bit noisy in street side rooms
