The Alsace Wine Route is a stunning route that every visitor to the region should take. Most people go by car. Others discover it on foot. However, it can be quite slow on foot and it’s less enjoyable by car. The ideal solution? A bike! And as the Wine Route is very hilly, why not choose an electric bike!

I have tried a ride with an electric bike on the Wine Route with Alsa Cyclo Tours, which are based in Eguisheim (it’s an adorable village that you shouldn’t miss!). Alsa Cyclo Tours is a small company that was founded by a friendly and passionate team. They offer normal and electric bikes for hire.

I have chosen an electric bike. I’ve already ridden the Wine Route with my old bike and it’s not easy! I regularly had to dismount and push my bike, which is less fun. With the electric bike, a new world opened up to me!

You will still enjoy pedaling, even at a good pace, but the motor increases the speed and lets you go faster. It’s a real joy uphill! On the flat, it’s really fun to go faster than usual. The electric bikes of Alsa Cyclo Tours are quite high-end: they are very light (much lighter than my old bike!) and the battery lasts for about 100 kilometers. It is plenty!

You don’t know which way to go? Alsa Cyclo Tours offers several itineraries. The routes are recorded on GPS and you just have to follow the guide. I chose the Rouffach itinerary, a two-hour ride from Eguisheim to Rouffach on the Wine Route, offering beautiful viewpoints on the Alsace Plain and the Black Forest and going through cute villages likes Gueberschwihr or Pfaffenheim. I really enjoyed being guided and it makes things really easy! I could also go at my own pace and stop to take pictures as much as I wanted.

A nice bonus: it is possible to order a tasting basket made up of really local products (coming from 20 km max from Eguisheim!). A perfect and tasty picnic!

I liked

  • The electric bike making the ride easy for everyone!
  • Enjoying the landscapes of the Alsace Wine Route at my own pace
  • The itinerary suggested and the GPS: you will just have to follow the indications!
  • A very warm welcome

I liked a little less

  • My GPS had a problem at first, but it was perfect afterwards!
