Shopping idea in Alsace – Staub cocottes in Turckheim

The company Staub was created in 1974 in Turckheim by Francis Staub, an Alsatian man born in Colmar. The company is famous for its enameled cast iron cocottes, that are found in numerous French and foreign kitchens. Staub was bought in 2008 by the German group Zwilling, but the products are still manufactured in the North of France. So what exactly can be found in Alsace? Turckheim is the birth place of the company and there is in town a big Staub store, selling products coming from the company factory.

The Staub store in Turckheim sells the full range of the brand products: cocottes, mini-cocottes, teapots, woks, frying pans, fondue pots… There is really a lot of things! In addition to all cast iron products, Staub also sells ceramics products.

You will find in the shop first-choice products at normal prices, but also second-choice products at reduced prices. They have a minor cosmetic defect, that doesn’t impair their quality or use (for example, a change from the initial expected color of the enamel). On the whole, it is usually quite hard to find what is the defect. Staub products are of very high quality and are usually very pricey, so it might be worth going to this store!

Note: The Staub store in Turckheim organizes a large annual clearance sale during the penultimate weekend of November, with very attractive discounts. It’s a great place to buy a few Christmas presents “made in France” for cooking enthusiasts! I definitely found what I was looking for!

I liked

  • Products manufactured in France (not in Alsace, but still 😉 )
  • Second-choice products that are still of very good quality
  • Annual clearance sale

I liked a little less

  • Too bad the company is not Alsatian anymore!
