Vélorail Sud Alsace – Pedaling on a railroad track, we tested it!

There's an original activity to try out in Aspach-Michelbach: the Sud-Alsace velorail. I'd been wanting to try it for a long time, but never had the chance. When I heard that a velorail was opening near my home, I didn't hesitate!
My summary
I liked
- Everything – I think that’s clear!
I liked a little less
- Nothing!
A 2-hour walk
There are several departures during the day, but we chose the one in the early afternoon. The walk lasts around 2 hours, and covers 9 km between Burnhaupt and Cernay, on the same tracks as the Thur Doller train – for those who know it.
First good point: the manager and her team are very smiling and welcoming. In chatting with her, we learned that she was fulfilling her father’s dream by setting up this velorail. A great story too!

The velorail, an activity accessible to all
There are of course a few rules to follow, but nothing too complicated. We set off in convoys, separated by about 50 meters each for safety reasons. Each velorail can be composed differently, with a certain number of adults and children to be respected. And we’re comfortable!
We did it as a family, 4 adults and my 1-year-old granddaughter, and there was room for everyone. It is possible to have a free bike seat for toddlers, but we preferred to keep her with us on the back seat, which is like a deckchair – and she loved it!

Discover the landscape differently on the Velorail
I tested it as a passenger on the outward journey and then as a pedal on the return. I was a bit worried I’d have a hard time, but it’s really easy, the route is flat and accessible to everyone. They’re beautiful bikes, and you feel comfortable pedaling. It was hot the day we tried it out, but the wind is in your hair, and it’s very pleasant!
The scenery is different, as you pass through fields and forests, and over a bridge in particular. There are some fine views of the Vosges mountains along the way.
As you can imagine, I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone! There were other families in the convoy, as well as couples and friends, so it’s an activity that everyone can enjoy!
Don’t forget to reserve your slot because there are many requests 😉
