Do you know Bouxwiller? It is a small town located northwest of Strasbourg, which is the current capital of the Hanau region and was once the administrative center of the Hanau-Lichtenberg county. We're in a part of Alsace that isn't the best known, but is full of wonders... and Bouxwiller is one of them!

Historical circuit of Bouxwiller

Bouxwiller is a town with a rich architectural heritage, including some superb Alsatian houses! To discover the beauty of Bouxwiller’s architecture, I recommend you follow the historical tour: go to Place du Château, then follow the itinerary.

The city is not very big, but every street is full of surprises! Look up and admire the details on the facades– they’re magnificent. The tour takes about 1 hour, time to walk around and take pictures. I must admit that I tended to stop at almost every building!

It is also possible in some places to climb on the old city walls: ideal to take a little height and admire the city from above, with its beautiful roofs and its alleys…

The city center of Bouxwiller is not very lively but has a lot of charm: it is far from the liveliness of the villages of the Wine Route, but it has the merit of being peaceful and beautiful… If you want to discoverAlsace a little off the beaten track and away from the crowds, visiting Bouxwiller is a great idea!

A day in Bouxwiller

If you want to plan a fun day out in the area, I’d encourage you to plan a visit to Bouxwiller’s historic center, followed by a hike up to Bastberg, a hill high above the town that’s home to a nature reserve.

You can have a picnic and finish the walk in the afternoon. This is a great day to discover the built and natural heritage of Bouxwiller, to take a nice walk and to have a picnic in a bucolic setting! What more could you ask for?

Christmas market in Bouxwiller

Bouxwiller has a wonderful Christmas market: this is how I discovered the town for the first time. It’s a truly authentic market that takes place in the city center, it’s full of charm and you’ll see more locals than tourists strolling around 😉
