The advantage of the Black Forest? There's an incredible range of spas on offer... The disadvantage of the Black Forest? How do you choose from all that on offer? Don't panic, that's what we're here for. I've unearthed a little gem for you in Baiersbronn, Germany: the Spa at the Hotel Traube Tonbach.

My summary

  • The igloo and the Finnish sauna
  • The many facilities
  • The care given to the decoration
  • The cleanliness of the premises
  • The disapproving look of the Germans when you keep your bathing suit on for saunas and hammams 😉

Day spa formula

Like many hotels, theTraube Tonbach offers a day spa package. And you’ll need a whole day to take advantage of all their facilities: two indoor pools, two outdoor pools, two bubble baths, three saunas, two steam rooms, a (very) cold bath… Not to mention two relaxation rooms, a lovely terrace with deckchairs and a small bar/snack bar.

Starry sky sauna at the Traube Tonbach spa

My first favorite is the Finnish sauna: with its two small windows overlooking the outside, its starry-sky LED ceiling and the essential oils diffused, it has a real charm all of its own… If the temperature, 90°, doesn’t scare you! 😉

Our second favorite is the “igloo”, located between the two hammams and the “bio sauna”. The entire room, immersed in a bluish atmosphere, is cooled. It contains an ice fountain, to be applied all over the body to ease circulation after a sauna or hammam session.

For couples, with friends or family

The outdoor area, with its whirlpool and small pool, is also very cute. Last but not least, the decor is very nice and a great effort has been made to keep it clean. Even if it’s crowded, the spa is so big and the activities so numerous that you feel like you’re in a little cocoon out of time.

In short, an ideal place for a relaxing day out, whether you’re on a romantic getaway, with girlfriends or family: children are welcome in the pool area, and the hotel has provided a changing table and baby equipment.

It’s also possible to make an appointment for massages and treatments, but I didn’t try it out. I wasn’t able to take many photos: don’t forget that in Germany, you can go to the spa with your bathing suit on… Or without 🙂
