Right next to the famous Saint-Louis Arzviller inclined plane located near Phalsbourg in Moselle, close to the border with Alsace, here is an excellent activity idea to do with your family! The alpine luge of the inclined plane welcomes young and old between April and September to experience some thrills, but also enjoy small electric boats installed on its basin.

Summer sledding

The inclined plane sled is a summer sled, to enjoy the pleasures of sliding outside the winter! It is a toboggan run on rails that winds through the forest, with beautiful views of the basin where the electric boats are located and further on the Marne-Rhine canal.

The sleds are designed for 2 people, knowing that children under 3 years old are not allowed (it would be dangerous) and that those under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

After getting into the sled, a cable allows you to effortlessly climb to the top of the course. Then, you press the mushroom (the levers located on the side of the sled in fact), and it’s off for a course of 500 meters long alternating wide and tighter turns. In terms of feel, I have to say it’s a lot of fun, even for an adult!

There’s nothing to be afraid of either because you control the speed at all times and can decide to slow down if it seems a little fast. In all cases, the maximum speed is 40km/h. What to have very nice sensations, especially since the course is perched in the trees, at a maximum height of 6 meters.

When you arrive at the bottom, you only want to do it again! It must be said that the course is quite short (about 2 minutes) and that the moment is quickly passed.

Electric boats of the mini-port

In addition to sledding, you can take a ride on one of the small electric boats installed on the basin where the alpine sled is installed. The pool is not very big and the boats go very slowly: it is really an activity reserved for children who will be happy to sail on the firemen’s boat, on a pirate’s boat or even on the police boat… Yes, the boats all have their specific theme! And as a bonus, when it’s hot, we’re always happy to take a ride on the water!

What’s next?

If you feel hungry after all that, you can have a drink and a bite to eat at the bar with a view of the toboggan run and the pool. And for another nice visit located 2 minutes away, don’t hesitate to go and see the glassmakers of the Lehrer crystal factory. Finally, here are some other ideas for activities to do in the Pays de Phalsbourg.

I liked

  • Fun summer sledding in a beautiful natural setting
  • Good idea for a family activity
  • Cool themed electric boats for kids

I liked a little less

  • Fast sledding circuit

Schedules

The luge is open between April and September. Check the website for opening days and times, which depend on the season. Please note that in case of bad weather, the sled can be closed: it is indeed impossible to use it in case of rain because the braking system does not work well.
