Visit of Turckheim, medieval city on the Alsace Wine Route

Turckheim is one of my favorite villages on the Alsace Wine Route. It is located right next to Colmar, yet many visitors just go to Eguisheim, Ribeauvillé or Riquewihr and miss Turckheim. It's a real shame because this village is charming and has an incredible built heritage!

A magnificent architecture

Turckheim offers its visitors some very beautiful discoveries from themedieval period: three gates from the Middle Ages (France, Munster and Brand gates) have been preserved as well as important parts of the city wall.

I advise you to wander freely in the city: it is not very big but you will be able to admire very beautiful buildings along the way, such as the city hall, the guard house, the Sainte-Anne church, the Hôtel des Deux Clefs or even superb half-timbered houses. A splendor!

I particularly like Turckheim because you can feel that there is also a real local life and that it is not only dedicated to tourists. It is all the more pleasant to walk around!

The night watchman of Turckheim

One of the particularities of Turckheim is to have kept the tradition of the night watchman. Of course, this round is not held all year round and is now made for visitors, but I find it interesting to be able to participate in this round which was traditional in the past.

One can thus accompany the night watchman and take advantage of it to make an unusual night guided tour of Turckheim! The rounds take place from May to October and during the Advent and Easter periods.

  • Magnificent village on the Alsace Wine Route
  • Not necessarily very touristy
  • Tradition of the night watchman
  • Nothing!
