1. Erithaj Chocolat near Place Broglie

A jewelry store, a museum, or a chocolate shop? In any case, for me, it’s without a doubt the best artisan chocolatier in town. At Erithaj, the indulgence begins with the eyes. You’ll marvel at each and every piece—Arnaud Stengel, the owner, is a true master craftsman. The chocolate creations are crafted like genuine works of art, so beautiful that you almost hesitate to take a bite. Well, that would be a shame, though…

Erithaj makes tasting bars with surprising flavor combinations, ganaches, pralines, and marshmallows, as well as spreads, jams, syrups, and spices. And as if that weren’t enough, Erithaj tempts us with magnificent pastries and desserts available only on weekends. It’s perhaps no coincidence that the chocolate shop is located in a former Art Nouveau-style gallery—the Maison d’art alsacienne —dating back to 1905. Be sure to take a moment to admire its lovely period façade featuring marquetry.

2. Henner Frères in Robertsau

Good chocolate has to be earned! This artisanal chocolate shop is located in the Robertsau neighborhood, about a 20-minute walk from the Parc de l’Orangerie and the European institutions. At Henner Frères, chocolate comes in all shapes and forms: bars, Florentines, mendiants, filled meringues, orangettes, spreads, as well as cakes, tarts, and shortbread cookies…

The shop’s specialty is homemade praline and ganache. And chocolates that are as delicious as they are beautiful. Every detail is carefully attended to, right down to the packaging—I love their tasting bars with their striking graphic design. The elegant shop (though a tad cold) and the production lab are run by two brothers—a chocolatier and a former winemaker. Made on-site, the chocolates are crafted using the finest ingredients.

3. Chocolate Hazelnut at Faubourg-de-Pierre

At this family-run, artisanal chocolate shop, you’ll find chocolate candies (ganaches and pralines), chocolate bars, delicious filled bars, marshmallows, and, of course, special creations for Easter and Christmas. Whether plain or studded with dried fruit, one of the shop’s signature products is its thin chocolate slabs, which are sold by weight.

At Chocolat Noisette, all products are handmade on-site. This chocolate shop is run by a father and his three daughters. You can actually watch the small team at work, sincethe open workshop is located behind the counter. The shop is located on Faubourg de Pierre, right in the heart of Strasbourg.

4. Schreiber Chocolate near Place d’Austerlitz

Another family business! Schreiber has been an artisan chocolatier for 35 years. Don’t let the slightly old-school storefront fool you—the shop is brimming with candies, pralines, chocolate bars, truffles, and other generous gourmet treats. If you’re looking to bring back some typical Alsatian gourmet souvenirs, you’ve come to the right place.

Schreiber offers brandies, small kouglofs with praline filling, and stork’s eggs. The prices are very reasonable, offering excellent value for money, and the staff are warm and welcoming. For Easter, you’ll find molded chocolates in traditional shapes (rabbits, bells, and hens). While the store is located in Strasbourg, the production workshop (which you can actually visit) is in the village of Dorlisheim. The chocolates are a bit more traditional but truly delicious —and that’s all we ask for.

5. Thierry Mulhaupt near the Cathedral

He is best known for his desserts, his “tartes folles,” and his kouglof. But in addition to being a pastry chef, Thierry Mulhaupt is also a chocolatier. From the cocoa bean to the finished product, all his chocolates are made in his workshop in Mundolsheim. Whether you’re a connoisseur or just a chocolate lover, you’ll find something to treat yourself to in one of his two shops. A wide selection of chocolates is available year-round. Milk, dark, or white—his collection of chocolate bars (more than thirty varieties) is quite impressive.

These wines can also be discovered and enjoyed in the form of thin dark chocolate discs. You’ll also find excellent confections and little treats here: marshmallow bears, Florentines, gianduja shortbread, rochers, coated almonds or hazelnuts, orangettes, and even cocoa-infused teas—quite original. Not to mention the pralines and ganaches, which are available in gift boxes. From bunnies and candy-filled eggs to chocolate-coated treats, Mulhaupt also crafts beautiful molded pieces for Easter and Christmas.
