After having tested great spas like the Cheneaudiere, the Dollenberg or Traube Tonbach, I thought it would be difficult to be surprised again. Wrong! I had a great day at theHostellerie des Châteaux hotel-restaurant and spa, a Relais & Châteaux located in Ottrott. This small Alsatian village, only 30 minutes from Strasbourg and 45 minutes from Colmar, is known for its red wine… And, now, for its spa!

I had a real crush on two of the three rest rooms. The first one, entirely wooded and heated, includes hay (yes, yes!) which diffuses a pleasant smell. In the second one, we stay cool on water mattresses, dimly lit by a wall of blue salt stones.

The 8 (!) saunas and 2 hammams of theHostellerie des Châteaux are really different from each other, by their decoration (mountain wood, salt stones…) or the smells diffused (eucalyptus, aromatic plants). Some are very small, like the amethyst hammam plunged in the darkness, but there are enough facilities to stay alone even if it is crowded. There is even a sauna with a small oven to cook and enjoy a pretzel!

The spa also includes infrared chairs, heated seats, an outdoor pool and an indoor-outdoor pool. A little extra for families: there is a children’s area with a rest room, swimming pool, jacuzzi and “family sauna”.

We chose the formula with lunch. The service was nice, fast and the dishes very good and light. At 75 euros per person during the week, it’s still a budget but the value for money is really good.

I liked

  • The originality of saunas and steam rooms
  • The rest rooms
  • Very good quality/price ratio

I liked less

  • Nothing!
