Address selection

To write this article, I conducted a test with my girlfriend Marine from the blog Miss Crumble. We took it very seriously—we went out and bought lots of kougelhopfs and did a blind taste test with our partners!

Only the two places I mention below received unanimous praise—by a wide margin… So I’m giving you just these two (located right in downtown Strasbourg—how convenient!), but you didn’t need any more than that anyway, right? If you think kougelhopf is dry, go try one of these: they’re moist and light, unlike the ones you all too often find in many stores!

Kouglof is best enjoyed right away or taken home as a souvenir of your weekend in Alsace—just don’t wait too long, or it will dry out! Of course, you can also make it yourself: here’s a recipe for homemade kugelhopf. A quick note on spelling: it can be spelled kouglof, kougelhopf, or kugelhopf—you’ll see all three.

Kouglof from the Christian Pastry Shop

📍 12 rue de l’Outre / 10 rue Mercière, Strasbourg – 🔗 Visit Christian’s website

Chez Christian (Meyer) is an emblematic pastry shop in Strasbourg. With its two addresses of pastry shops and tea rooms in the heart of Strasbourg (rue de l’Outre, near Place Kléber and rue Mercière, near the cathedral), it is easy to go there to buy a kougelhopf… To be enjoyed the same day or the next day, for breakfast! Lightly toasted, it’s a treat, especially since it’s so soft!

Kougelhopf by Christophe Felder at the Hotel Suisse

📍 2-4 rue de la Râpe, Strasbourg – 🔗 Visit the Hôtel Suisse website

I have already talked to you about the Hotel Suisse in Strasbourg, for the hotel and for its tea room. Here is a third opportunity to talk about it: for its kougelhopf! The Hotel Suisse offers for sale the kouglofs of the famous Alsatian pastry chef Christophe Felder. This kougelhopf is really excellent and I can only recommend it! You will just have to plan the purchase of your kougelhopf a little in advance since it is necessary to order it by calling directly the Hotel Suisse. At least you’ll be sure to get some 🙂
