I love to stroll around the Christmas markets of Alsace(Strasbourg, Ribeauvillé and Haguenau being among my favorites) and find nice little gifts from local artists and craftsmen. However, whether you are from the region or not, it is sometimes difficult to know where to be sure to find made in Alsace. Here are our good addresses to buy local at the Christmas market in Strasbourg.

Made in Alsace by Gnooss

This ephemeral store has continued to grow over the years and now includes nearly 35 local designers, in the heart of Strasbourg, at 5 rue du Dôme. Decorative objects, jewelry, delicacies, candles, pottery, illustrations, accessories… Almost everything has been handmade and/or found.

The Market Off

Laurène dedicated an article to the Off market, a market dedicated to the structures of the social and solidarity economy. A good way to combine shopping and solidarity! See you at the Grimmeissen square, in the Petite France.

The market of the irreducible small producers of Alsace

The name of this market, located in the heart of Petite France on the square Louise Weiss, means everything! A dozen producers of the region sell their pestos, jams, wines, chocolates, bredeles, cheeses, horseradish (the Alsatian mustard), preserves … Small tip: there is soup, toast, dampfnudles, pies or beer (made with their products of course) to taste on the spot. Take the opportunity to take a break and talk to the producers.

The market of Christmas delights of Alsace

On the beautiful Rohan terrace, brewers, winemakers, bakers and farmers met to discover traditional Alsatian products. It is also on this square that you will find an excellent Alsatian mulled white wine. Little extra: this market is open until December 30th.

Christmas baubles from Meisenthal

These baubles come to us from Moselle, right on the border with Alsace! They’re a must-have in the region, and for good reason: each ball is handcrafted by artisans at the Centre International d’Art Verrier de Meisenthal. Every year, a new contemporary Christmas bauble is designed by a new creator: the unveiling of the bauble of the year is always a great moment, just like that of theMulhouse Christmas fabric! These baubles are added to the traditional models that also exist. The stand is located at Place Benjamin Zix.

The Plant Bath Workshop

Right next to the off market, this small gallery gathers 12 illustrators from Strasbourg. Please note: the workshop is only open from Friday to Sunday, at n°8 rue du Bain-aux-Plantes.

Alsatrucs

Here’s one of Laurène’s favorites. Alsatrucs are beautiful objects created by craftsmen, using traditional Alsatian symbols while bringing a touch of modernity through very original designs. You’ll find Alsatrucs in the heart of the city, near the cathedral on Place du Marché aux Cochons de Lait.

Of course, there are also many chalets of local producers, artists or craftsmen scattered throughout the different Christmas markets in Strasbourg. Impossible to list them all, but don’t hesitate to ask them questions about the provenance of their objects!
