The best beer bars in Strasbourg (or at least our favorites!)

by | Updated on 22/12/2022 | Bars, Strasbourg | 0 comments

There’s nothing like a good beer to relieve the pressure after work! It’s a good thing, because in
Strasbourg
and in
Alsace
in general, beer is more than a drink: it’s a real tradition! It would be a mistake to visit Strasbourg without taking advantage of its many beer bars and tasting its traditional local beers, which are sometimes even brewed on site. Here are the addresses of my favorite beer bars to relax with a nice pint in Strasbourg (to be drunk in moderation though, alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health). This list is of course not exhaustive, these are just the bars that offer a good choice of beers and where I like to spend a moment with friends!

Au Télégraphe – A classic student bar

au-telegraph

A classic student hangout in Strasbourg, located in the Krutenau district. Le Télégraphe is a friendly brewery where you can relax with friends around a good beer.

The terrace is ideal to enjoy the sun with a pint. The soccer games are shown on a big screen and the prices are very reasonable, whether for a snack or a drink. (long live happy hours) In addition, the staff is very welcoming and the establishment is dog-friendly.

In a few words, it’s a place where you like to lounge: I’ve never been disappointed!

I liked

  • Friendly atmosphere
  • Dog-friendly
  • Low prices

I liked less

  • Nothing!

Micro-brewery La Lanterne – Craft brewery in the center of Strasbourg

the-lantern

La Lanterne is a micro-brewery, so it’s a place that deserves the attention of beer lovers visiting Strasbourg! The welcome is very satisfying, with a nice waiter, music from the 90’s (haaaa my childhood…) and a craft Alsatian beer of an incomparable taste and orange color. My favorite beer in Strasbourg!

Copper drums overhang the room, which is furnished with wooden tables and leather chairs. In one corner, a dart board and in the other, a sofa with board games.

Negative point, the place lacks a bit of decoration, but apart from that, it is the right place to discover new beers around a tarte flambée in an authentic brewery!

I liked

  • One of the best beers in Strasbourg!
  • Good music and relaxed atmosphere

I liked less

  • Lack of decoration

La Mandragore – A good original beer bar

bar-la-mandragore

When you set foot in La Mandragore, you have to be ready to discover a parallel universe!

Located just a step away from the place Kléber in Strasbourg, this small bar with a dark and mysterious atmosphere contains a superb collection ofstuffed animals and curiosities of all kinds. (sensitive souls abstain!) It’s a perfect place to get away from it all and have a good lager.

The service is very good with a very nice staff. The place, with its exposed stonework, animal skin stools and fascinating decor, is superb. A terrace and a sofa corner are also available. The atmosphere is generally musical (with good rock’n’roll, I like that very much!).

It’s a real cabinet of curiosities, I can’t get enough of it!

I liked

  • The atmosphere of the place with its curiosities
  • Kindness of the staff

I liked less

  • Nothing!

L’Artichaut – Good beer, sport and flambé pies in Grand Rue

artichoke-bar

L’Artichaut is a bar in downtown Strasbourg. With its terrace, it is ideally located to enjoy the atmosphere of Strasbourg! I usually sit by the pool table at the back of the room with a nice seasonal beer. There is also a large screen for sports broadcasts, the room is all in length so, regardless of the place, you do not miss a minute of the game!

The service is very professional and welcoming, the tartes flambées are home made and the beer is good. (There are more than 20 at the press!)

It is therefore with pleasure that I invite you to visit it!

I liked

  • Billiards
  • Good atmosphere

I liked less

  • Nothing!

Le Garde Fou – Cellar and petanque court

le-garde-fou

Le Garde Fou is one of the most comfortable beer bars in Strasbourg!

The atmosphere is warm with its wooden furniture, leather sofas (very comfortable!) and fun decor. What makes it original is its cellar, which has an indoor petanque court!

The staff is friendly, the prices are adapted to all budgets. Honorable mention, there are more than 10 draught beers, all of them craft beers and coming only from France(including Alsatian beers)!

If you want to have a good time with friends, I highly recommend you to come to Le Garde Fou!

I liked

  • French beers
  • Indoor Petanque

I liked less

  • Nothing!

The Beer Academy – A nice institution

academy-of-beer-facade

An institution in Strasbourg! L’Académie de la Bière, is 3 establishments each offering a large choice of draught beers and more than a hundred bottled beers from Alsace and the world.

I love the intimate atmosphere of the Petite France with its furniture, antiques and murals. The bar’s cellar turns into a dance floor on weekends and important soccer and rugby matches are broadcast live for sports fans. I didn’t try the food, but you can eat there (burgers, tarts flambées, etc…). It is a typical Alsatiancorner with a very pleasant atmosphere!

In the Krutenau it is quite different, it is located near theuniversity, so it is very frequented by students. The atmosphere is different, less typical but more alive!

I liked

  • Typically Alsatian

I liked less

  • Nothing!

Le Délirium Café – A huge selection of draft and bottled beers

whisky-delirium-cafe

How can we talk about beer without talking about the Delirium Café? The Belgian franchise that won the Guinness World Record for the number of beers offered (2004 different beers ) has set up shop in Strasbourg, just opposite the Place des Halles! There is a wide variety of draught beers and bottles from all over the world, but also a very large choice of whiskies and a shooters/cocktails corner.

Like its Brussels counterpart (which I was lucky enough to visit), the general atmosphere of the place, with its beautiful woodwork, is very warm. With a simple, but effective furniture (beer barrel and logs as chairs and table), it becomes quickly noisy when it is crowded, but we feel comfortable anyway. A must in Strasbourg!

I liked

  • Very large choice of beers and whiskies

I liked less

  • Too many people sometimes, so too noisy

Le Grincheux – Good atmosphere and theme nights

grumpy

I like to go to Le Grincheux for a beer during the jam sessions they organize twice a month on Thursday nights. It is one of our favorite places to listen to music in Strasbourg. During these events, there is not really a place to sit, but the atmosphere is there. Of course, good music in the center of Strasbourg attracts people! The bar has two floors with a smoking room on the second floor. The place, with its woodwork, is rustic and warm!

The choice of beers is so important that one could get lost! Indeed, the bar’s team is constantly on the lookout for beers, whiskeys and brandies from around the world to add to their extensive list, making it a must among Strasbourg’s beer bars!

I liked

  • Very large choice of beers and spirits!
  • Jam session (for musicians)

I liked less

  • Nothing!

Brasserie Le Tigre – Alsatian beers and flams

brewery-the-tiger

Le Tigre is one of the most luxurious places I’ve ever visited in Strasbourg for a beer! This historic brewery, recently rehabilitated, is located in a beautiful setting. When we enter, it is first a room with a cocktail bar (with a nice menu), then a beer bar offering 10 Alsatian beers on draught and bottled beers brewed on the spot! There is a giant screen to watch the sporting events and several small red alcoves, to spend time with friends!

A sofa corner, where metal barrels are arranged, separates the bar from the restaurant. Then there is a wood-fired oven where the flambéed pies are prepared (special mention by the way, they are excellent and are part of our selection of flambéed pies restaurants in Strasbourg!) Themed evenings are regularly organized if you feel like partying!

With its famous tiger statue in the center of the restaurant, this is a place worth seeing in Strasbourg!

I liked

  • A wonderful establishment!

I liked less

  • Prices a little more expensive than others
