The best beer bars in Strasbourg (or at least our favorites!)
There's nothing better than a good beer to unwind after work! That works out perfectly, because in Strasbourg and throughout Alsace in general, beer is more than just a drink—it’s a true tradition! It would be a mistake to visit Strasbourg without enjoying its many beer bars and sampling its traditional local beers, some of which are even brewed on-site. Here are the addresses of my favorite beer bars for relaxing with a nice pint in Strasbourg ( drink in moderation—alcohol abuse is dangerous to your health). This list is, of course, by no means exhaustive; these are just the bars that offer a good selection of beers and where I like to spend time with friends!

A classic hangout for students in Strasbourg, located in the Krutenau neighborhood. Le Télégraphe is a friendly, welcoming brasserie —a great place to relax with friends over a good beer.
The patio is the perfect spot to soak up the sun with a pint. Soccer games are shown on a big screen, and the prices are very reasonable, whether you’re looking for a snack or a drink. (Long live happy hour!) Plus, the staff is very welcoming and the place is dog-friendly. In a nutshell, it’s a place where we love to relax: I’ve never been disappointed!

2. Micro-brasserie La Lanterne – Craft brewery in the center of Strasbourg

La Lanterne is a microbrewery, so it’s a place that’s definitely worth checking out for beer lovers visiting Strasbourg! The service is excellent, with a friendly server, ’90s music (ahhh, my childhood…), and a craft beer from Alsace with an incomparable taste and orange hue. It’s my favorite beer in Strasbourg!
Copper barrels line the walls of the room, which is furnished with wooden tables and leather armchairs. In one corner, there’s a dartboard, and in the other, a sofa with board games. On the downside, the place could use a bit more decor, but other than that, it’s the perfect spot to discover new beers while enjoying a tarte flambéein an authentic brasserie!

3. La Mandragore – A good, original beer bar

When you step into La Mandragore, be prepared to discover a parallel universe! Located just a stone’s throw from Place Kléber in Strasbourg, this small bar with its dark and mysterious atmosphere houses a superb collectionof stuffed animals and curiosities of all kinds. (Not for the faint of heart!) It’s the perfect place to escape the ordinary and get away from it all over a nice pilsner.
The service is excellent, and the staff is very friendly. The venue, with its exposed stone walls, animal-skin stools, and fascinating decor, is stunning. There’s also a terrace and a sofa area. There’s usually music playing ( great rock ’n’ roll—I really love it!). It’s a real cabinet of curiosities—I never get tired of it!

4. L’Artichaut – Good beer, sport and tarts flambées in Grand Rue

L’Artichaut is a bar in downtown Strasbourg. With its outdoor seating, it’s perfectly located to soak up the Strasbourg atmosphere! I usually sit near the pool table, at the back of the room, with a nice seasonal beer. There’s also a big screen for sports replays, and since the room is long and narrow, no matter where you sit, you won’t miss a minute of the game!
The service is top-notch, with a very professional and welcoming staff; the flambéed tarts are homemade, and the beer is great. (There are over 20 on tap!) So I’m happy to invite you to stop by!

5. Le Garde Fou – Cellar and petanque area

Le Garde Fou is one of the most welcoming beer bars in Strasbourg! It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere with its wooden furniture, leather couches (which are very comfortable!), and fun decor. What makes it unique is its cellar, which features an indoor pétanque court!
The staff is friendly, and the prices are affordable for every budget. Special mention: there are more than 10 beers on tap, all craft beers sourced exclusively from France (including some from Alsace)! If you want to have a good time with friends, I highly recommend stopping by Le Garde Fou!

6. The Beer Academy – A fine institution

A Strasbourg institution! The Académie de la Bière consists of three locations, each offering a wide selection of draft beers and more than a hundred bottled beers from Alsace and around the world.
I love the very cozy atmosphere of the one in Petite France, with its furniture, antiques, and murals. The bar’s basement turns into a dance floor on weekends, and major soccer and rugby games are broadcast live for sports fans. I haven’t tried the food, but you can eat there (burgers, tarte flambée, etc.). It’s a quintessentially Alsatian spot with a very pleasant atmosphere!
In the Krutenau it is quite different, it is located near theuniversity, so it is very frequented by students. The atmosphere is different, less typical but more alive!

7. Le Délirium Café – A huge selection of draught and bottled beers

How can you talk about beer without mentioning the Delirium Café? The Belgian franchise that earned a Guinness World Record for the number of beers offered (2,004 different beers ) has opened a location in Strasbourg, right across from Place des Halles! It offers a wide variety of draft and bottled beers from around the world, as well as an extensive selection of whiskeys and a shooters/cocktails bar.
Like its Brussels counterpart (which I was lucky enough to visit), the general atmosphere of the place, with its beautiful woodwork, is very warm. With a simple, but effective furniture (beer barrel and logs as chairs and table), it becomes quickly noisy when it is crowded, but we feel comfortable anyway. A must in Strasbourg!

8. Le Grincheux – Great atmosphere and themed evenings

I like to go have a beer at Le Grincheux during the jam sessions (musicians’ get-togethers) they host twice a month on Thursday evenings. It’s actually one of our favorite spots to listen to music in Strasbourg. During these events, there isn’t really anywhere to sit, but the atmosphere is great. Of course, good music in the heart of Strasbourg draws a crowd! The bar has two floors, with a smoking room on the second floor. The place, with its wood paneling, has a rustic and cozy feel!
The selection of beers is so vast that it’s easy to get lost in it! In fact, the bar staff is constantly on the lookout for beers, whiskeys, and spirits from around the world to add to their impressive, well-stocked menu, making it a must-visit among Strasbourg’s beer bars!

9. Brasserie Le Tigre – Alsatian beers and flams

Le Tigre is one of the most luxurious places I’ve ever visited in Strasbourg to have a beer! This historic, recently renovated brewery is located in a magnificent setting. When you walk in, you’ll first come to a room with a cocktail bar (featuring an excellent menu), followed by a beer bar offering 10 Alsatian beers on tap and bottled beers brewed on-site! There’s a giant screen for watching sports games and several small red alcoves where you can hang out with friends!
A sofa corner, where metal barrels are arranged, separates the bar from the restaurant. Then there is a wood-fired oven where the flambéed pies are prepared (special mention by the way, they are excellent and are part of our selection of flambéed pies restaurants in Strasbourg!) Themed evenings are regularly organized if you feel like partying!
With its famous tiger statue in the center of the restaurant, it’s a place in Strasbourg that’s definitely worth a look!
